Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of a shorter working week. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. While you mention health issues like depression and obesity, the explanation remains superficial. The argument regarding marital life is also underdeveloped, relying on generalizations rather than specific, well-supported reasoning. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more nuanced arguments and concrete examples that illustrate the impact of long working hours on society or the economy, rather than simply listing potential negative outcomes. The conclusion is present but does not synthesize the main points effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'To commence with it' and 'Additional to it'. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the second paragraph where the transition between health issues and marital problems feels abrupt. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words that connect ideas more logically rather than just signaling the start of a new point.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'bad effect', 'get a time', and 'private job workers'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'companies are nowadays overworked their workers' (should be 'overworking') and 'consequences was that' (should be 'result was that'). To improve, focus on using more sophisticated academic vocabulary and ensuring that words are used in their correct grammatical form and context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Examples include 'if they don’t get a time to do same exercise and continuously working that can led them' (should be 'leads them'), and 'what are suppose to do' (should be 'what are they supposed to do'). Subject-verb agreement and tense consistency are recurring issues. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic verb forms and sentence construction.
