Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people argue that the working days should be shorter and workers should have a longer weekends. I strongly agree with the point of having long weekends because it will bring us out of many life problems.

Firstly, the people who are doing jobs for the whole week and have only one day off, they are facing the health problems. Like muscles pain because of long sittings, eyesight weakness because of non-stop use of computer screens, hair fall as a result of stress, anxiety and depression. People have less time to engage with the extra curricular activities, do exercise and have less time to spend with their family. All these environmental time bounded jobs led the people far from their normal life they became robot. They pass through this grind every day. At the end, they have nothing in their hands nor health, children and wealth etc..

On the other side, the people who working only for four days a week and having a long weekend. These people show the excellent results in their working sector, personal life and social life. They will play an essential role in an economy growth. For example, in weekend, people have outing with families, it boosts their energy level, freshen their mind, remove their office work stress. As a result, they became productive, they have generated new ideas to resolve the office related issues. When the mind is fresh, people have their clear thoughts, then they can achieve success in their work and it also impacts their personal life.

As a result, I go with the idea of longer weekends, this gives people a free time, in which they try new things, explore their personality, invent new technologies and innovative ideas. In future, these things benefits the local public and also plays an important role in the economy growth.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly, maintaining a consistent position throughout. The ideas are relevant, focusing on health benefits and economic productivity. However, the development is somewhat repetitive and relies on generalizations. For instance, the claim that workers become 'robots' or that they have 'nothing in their hands' is hyperbolic and lacks nuanced support. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific examples or logical links between shorter hours and economic growth, rather than relying on broad assertions. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, but the overall depth of the argument could be improved by exploring potential counter-arguments or more concrete societal impacts.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'On the other side', and 'As a result' to guide the reader. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the use of cohesive devices is repetitive. For example, the transition 'On the other side' is used to introduce a new point, but the connection between the two paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, some sentences are fragmented or lack clear logical progression, such as the list of health issues in the second paragraph, which would benefit from better integration into a cohesive sentence structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'extracurricular activities', 'productive', and 'innovative'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'environmental time bounded jobs' and 'working sector'. These errors occasionally impede the precision of your argument. To improve, focus on learning collocations—for example, instead of 'doing jobs', use 'working' or 'employed'. You also tend to repeat basic words like 'people' and 'time'. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise synonyms and academic collocations would significantly enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the people who working'), article usage (e.g., 'in weekend'), and sentence fragments (e.g., 'Like muscles pain...'). While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors prevent the text from reaching a higher band. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and a correctly conjugated verb. Proofreading for common errors like pluralization and missing prepositions would also be highly beneficial.
