Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that there should be less number of working days and the weekend should be extended. I fully agree with this statement because in my opinion, employees can spend more time with their families, friends or for hobbies. They can recharge their energies and come back to work with full enthusiasm after weekend. Therefore, companies will have more productive employees in week days.

Due to busy schedule in working days, people sometimes can't give enough time to their families or friends or even activities they love to do. Longer weekend will make it easier for them. With more off days at weekend, they can reset their lives and prepare themselves for the next coming working day. For instance, people who do regular workout and have a big lovely family can do manage time for meal prep for the whole week and for their loved ones.

I also believe that employee's productivity significantly drops by the end of the working week. Mostly, they are working hard-heartedly and are exhausted. More off days in a week will help them to rest more and do things they enjoy. For example, professionals who have jobs that require a lot of mental processing, like developers, may get burn-out after prolonged working week. More off days will them an opportunity to bring their mental and physical energies back.

In conclusion, giving more days off in the weekend benefited the employees to recharge themselves after a tiring working week, as well as the employeers who will have a more productive working force each working week.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt clearly and maintains a consistent position throughout. The ideas regarding work-life balance and employee productivity are relevant and logically developed. However, the development is somewhat repetitive; the points about 'recharging' and 'spending time with family' are mentioned in both the introduction and the body paragraphs without adding significant new depth. To reach a higher band, you should aim to explore the counter-arguments or provide more specific, nuanced examples, such as the economic impact on businesses or the potential for increased job satisfaction leading to higher retention rates, rather than focusing solely on personal rest.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'Therefore', 'Due to', and 'For instance' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly repetitive. For example, the start of the second and third paragraphs relies on similar structures. To improve, try to vary the way you introduce your supporting points and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more fluid. The concluding paragraph effectively summarizes the main arguments, though it contains a minor grammatical error regarding the tense of 'benefited'.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'enthusiasm', 'productivity', 'mental processing', and 'burn-out' appropriately. There are some instances of slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'less number of working days' (should be 'fewer working days') and 'working hard-heartedly' (which is not a standard collocation). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Expanding your repertoire to include more academic collocations and avoiding informal or slightly awkward phrasing would significantly enhance your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent minor errors in grammar and article usage, such as 'in week days' (should be 'on weekdays'), 'do manage time' (should be 'manage time'), and 'will them an opportunity' (missing the verb 'give'). These errors do not impede communication, but they are persistent. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions. Increasing the variety of complex structures, such as using more conditional sentences or passive voice where appropriate, would also help demonstrate better grammatical control.
