Student answer (Band 5.5)

Now a days, people believe that working days should be reduced and weekend days should be increased, i completely agree with this statement because shorter working weekend helpful for increasing the worker mental health and physical stress.

Firstly, an extended weekend helpful for employees to maintain the healthy work balance. Workers are more interested to work with fresh mind and new ideas. Significantly, company turnover will be increased, and it will be benefited for the employers for investing the new business. For example, Tata motors were the one of the successful companies in India, Owners give multiple holiday leaves for spending the time with their families. After holiday vacation workers work with new comeback ideas to develop the employment.

Secondly, A shorter weekend and heavy workload discourages the employee mood and ideology. It is the first major impact of the employment and less spending with the personal life it will leads more burden to the work management. Moreover, these mental stress causes to health complications. For Instance, Ford motors were the one highest supplier in the automobile industry, they are refused to give the holidays to the workers, and they extended the working time of employees, it is the major failure of the company. Because heavy working pressure leads to fail the workers innovation ideas. At finally they closed the business and stopped the car business in India.

In conclusion, I strongly support the idea longer weekends free from the mental stress and health complications and mostly it will be more helpful for the employment for the growth and business expansion, because workers wok with creative and energetic.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of a shorter working week. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While the essay attempts to use examples like Tata Motors and Ford, these are not fully developed or logically connected to the argument. The reasoning is often repetitive, and the link between the examples and the main argument is tenuous. The essay would benefit from more detailed explanations of how exactly a shorter week leads to the outcomes described, rather than simply stating them. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments lack the depth required for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, 'Significantly' is used incorrectly to introduce a point about company turnover, and 'At finally' is non-standard. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the connection between 'ideology' and the rest of the sentence is confusing. While there is an overall progression, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the occasional awkward transition between ideas limit the coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'shorter working weekend helpful' (should be 'a shorter working week is helpful') and 'comeback ideas' (likely meaning 'fresh ideas'). The range of vocabulary is limited, and the student relies on basic terms. To improve, the student should focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to business and employee well-being, rather than repeating simple phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('it will leads'), missing articles ('the one of the successful'), and incorrect preposition usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and misuse of commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors is necessary.
