Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is widely argued that to reduce the working days in a weekend to give employees the possibility to have more free time. I completely disagree with this statement because less day work directly influence on workers salary and it will reduce the quality of life.

One of the main reasons is that reducing weekly hours might effect on employees pay roll and high inflation already makes life difficult, so, it does not benefit neither employers who could loss a significant money due to less working hours nor to the employees who will take less salary. Moreover, It would increase mental health problems due to the financial instability. For instance, Many people in India, work three or four days per week to have a long weekend, at a moment they are suffering from financial problems. Consequently, they are enable to pay for their children schools fees because of lack of money.

The other reason is that growth of companies. would be decreased because the staff is working less days, it directly impacts on country development; less tax will be collected from companies because people work few days a week.

For instance, after coronavirus pandemic some companies in the united states started this initiative to reducing workers working days but it showed up a total lost for the country because they found that the workers were less productive and the company lost a huge number of clients.

In conclusion, productivity of a company increase with the employees work; the more they work and the more the company will expand.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against a shorter working week. The ideas are relevant, focusing on economic impacts and financial stability. However, the development is somewhat limited. The example regarding India is vague and lacks a clear connection to the broader argument about the working week, and the claim about US companies post-pandemic is presented as a general fact without specific evidence. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced explanations of how a shorter week impacts productivity versus employee well-being, rather than relying on broad assertions. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the points made.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'Consequently' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as 'at a moment they are suffering' or 'it showed up a total lost'. Additionally, some sentences are fragmented or lack smooth transitions, such as the start of the third paragraph: 'The other reason is that growth of companies. would be decreased'. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that referencing is precise would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, such as 'financial instability', 'productivity', and 'inflation'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors that hinder precision. For example, 'less day work' should be 'fewer working days', and 'total lost' should be 'total loss'. You also struggle with word forms, such as 'enable' instead of 'unable'. While your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your main points, you need to focus on using words in their correct grammatical context and improving your collocation accuracy to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('productivity of a company increase'), incorrect preposition use, and punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary period in 'growth of companies. would be decreased'. There are also issues with article usage and sentence fragments. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring that your complex sentences are constructed accurately.
