Student answer (Band 5.5)
The length of the employment week ought to be cut down to grant staff an extended break. I firmly agree with this view because lessening working time will improve productivity and by extending weekend workers would get more time to relax.
There are various reason that productivity would be higher by giving employer more off days. Firstly, by working long hours worker gets tired of their work therefore in working time they are exhausted. Since they can't effort their best output in productivity. For this certain times product which made in overtime may not flawless or poor in the quality. For instant, in Bangladesh garments worker works whole day even in the weekends. Which makes devastating outcomes such as poor swing quality or wrong measures in cloths.
Moreover, long working hours not only impact on productivity but also create pressure on employers. Workers don't get abundant time to relax and rest though they are working more time just because of remuneration. If the weekend gets longer staff would get ample time to refresh their mind and body. In work days they did not get proper sleep while in longer weekend they can sleep well. Which will help their health and makes them more productive. Furthermore, spending more time with family and friends, makes a human happy and relaxed.
To sum up, in contemporary era there is a debate that working week should be reduced, therefore workers should get a longer break. From my perspective this is a great way to enhance productivity while workers also get sufficient time to relax and enjoy with their family.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of a shorter working week. The ideas regarding productivity and employee well-being are relevant and supported with an example from the garment industry in Bangladesh. However, the development is somewhat limited; the argument could be strengthened by exploring the potential economic downsides or the feasibility of such a change to provide a more balanced or nuanced perspective. While the position is clear throughout, the supporting points are occasionally repetitive, particularly regarding the benefits of rest. Overall, the response meets the requirements of the task but lacks the depth of development required for a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'To sum up' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and minor errors in referencing, such as the sentence fragment 'Which makes devastating outcomes...' and the slightly mechanical use of transitions. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the connection between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall readability and logical flow of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'remuneration', 'productivity', and 'contemporary era'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'can't effort their best output' (instead of 'cannot achieve') and 'poor swing quality' (likely meaning 'sewing'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision and sophistication of the writing. A wider range of vocabulary and more accurate collocations would be necessary to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('worker gets tired', 'product which made'), incorrect article usage, and sentence fragments ('Which makes devastating outcomes...'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the writer attempts complex sentences, the control over these structures is inconsistent, leading to errors that occasionally distract the reader. To improve, the student should focus on basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed correctly.
