Student answer (Band 5.5)

The growing influence of shorter or longer weekend in the modern society has sparked various debates. Some people believe that working week should be shorter and workers should have a longer weekend. In this essay, I will discuss about view and give my opinion with some suitable examples.

Firstly, taking about the longer weekend is that people feel relax and reduce stress of working. When people spend two to four days at home, then they feel comfortable and their body does not suffer from diseases. Sometimes company workers suffer from some diseases, and the longer holidays help people to maintain their health. Second main benefit is that people enjoy some moments with family, and they forget stress of working. For example, some companies offer some holidays after a month because they know that relaxation is most important than work.

Secondly, give some points about the disadvantages of longer weekend is that people are worried about the last task, and they require more times for completing their last work. Moreover, many companies collapse due to the more holidays because every company take a great work and complete task on given time, otherwise they loss their money and important time. For instance, in 2018 when all companies are closed due to corona disease, when many companies face problems because labor does not available for working.

In conclusion, some people argue that companies should be shorter the working week and increase holidays for workers. I am agree that longer holidays can be beneficial for workers in both way for working and maintaining their health.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses the prompt by discussing the pros and cons of a shorter working week. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'diseases' is vague and lacks a clear logical link to working hours. The example provided about the 2018 corona pandemic is not entirely relevant to the specific topic of a shorter working week, as it refers to a global health crisis rather than a structural change in labor policy. While a position is stated, the supporting arguments require more depth and specific, relevant evidence to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'taking about the longer weekend is that' and 'give some points about the disadvantages' are awkward and do not function well as transitions. The progression of ideas within paragraphs is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the second body paragraph where the transition between the concept of 'last tasks' and 'company collapse' is abrupt. Improved use of linking words would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. There is frequent repetition of basic terms like 'companies', 'work', and 'holidays'. Some word choices are unnatural, such as 'shorter the working week' (should be 'shorten') and 'labor does not available'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and the student relies on simple phrasing to express complex ideas. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary related to employment and productivity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('every company take', 'labor does not available'), incorrect verb forms ('I am agree'), and awkward phrasing ('relaxation is most important than work'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence construction often feels repetitive. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence structure and proofreading for basic errors is essential.
