Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that on the day's employes work should be kept short and the weekend should be longer. In my opinion, I support this statement because we need a long time to refresh our mind from a long schedule of work and it will be better for employees to have a shorter work period so they can perform their work efficiently instead of doing a half- hearted job.

First and foremost, having less weekdays will encourage workers to complete their work in that certain time. So, that they won't have any problems ahead. This will make them more efficient and honest to their job as well. On the other hand, short weekdays will also give them a time limit as well which will help them set an appropriate goal for them. Likely, this will keep their mind at ease, and they will be more prepared and focused on their duties.

Moreover, lengthy weekends will also be lot more beneficial for them as well because the more free time they will have the more peaceful their mind and body will be. Additionally, the extra free time will help them spend more time with their loved ones. For example, taking their Youngs ones on a field trip or have a picnic together. This will make a better environment at their home as well.

In conclusion, this is quite a good policy if applied as it will have a greater and better effect on society as well. The surroundings will be peaceful, and the work relations will be more lovely.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. The ideas regarding efficiency and work-life balance are relevant to the prompt. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, while you mention that shorter weeks encourage efficiency, you do not fully explain the mechanism behind this beyond a general statement. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific evidence or deeper analysis of how a shorter week impacts productivity or societal well-being. The response addresses all parts of the prompt, but the arguments remain at a somewhat superficial level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to signal the progression of your argument. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'as well' at the end of sentences. Additionally, some sentences lack smooth flow, such as 'So, that they won't have any problems ahead', which feels disjointed from the previous sentence. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring better sentence-to-sentence connection would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'work-life balance' (implied) and 'efficient'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'on the day's employes work' and 'Youngs ones'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on simple descriptors. To improve, you should aim to incorporate more precise academic collocations and avoid informal or grammatically incorrect phrasing. The errors present do not impede communication, but they do limit the sophistication of your writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'on the day's employes work should be kept short' (syntax issues), 'have a time limit as well which will help' (punctuation and redundancy), and 'the more free time they will have the more peaceful their mind and body will be' (missing articles and awkward structure). While these errors rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. You should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and sentence construction to improve accuracy.
