Student answer (Band 6.5)
Employees should have a shorter working week and also have extended weekends. This essay totally agrees with this view because it provide more time to relax and allows them to involve in leisure activities.
The first and foremost reason is that long weekends provide more free time. Nowadays, workers spend a significant amount of time at workplace to complete tasks and meet deadlines, making them feel tiring by the end of the working week. When people have shorter weekends, they spend most of their time fulfilling household responsibilities. As a result, many employees are unable to unwind, which then affects their overall productivity and causes them mentally burnout. In some countries, Friday is considered a half working day, which enables worker to complete all the household responsibilities, which then causes them to get enough spare time to relax. This overall enhances their productivity at the office.
Another compelling reason is that longer weekends enable worker to engage in different activities with their families and friends. They can plan short trips or participate in any sport activity. This not only gives them an opportunity to spend quality with their love ones, but also provide a wide range of options to keep themselves healthy. For example, a person going for a hike with friends is more likely to bolster their social bonds and feel refreshed after this trip. Therefore, a long weekend is useful for workers in many aspects of life.
In conclusion, the working week should stay for a shorter span to increase the productivity of employees and also to provide them an adequate amount of time to participate in recreational activities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt clearly, maintaining a consistent position in favor of a shorter working week. The ideas are relevant, focusing on productivity and social well-being. However, the development is somewhat limited; while the points are clear, they could be extended with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. For instance, the mention of 'some countries' is vague. The essay covers all parts of the task, but the supporting arguments remain at a general level, which prevents it from reaching the higher descriptors for full development.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'The first and foremost reason', 'Another compelling reason', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, the flow within paragraphs is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, though there are minor issues with pronoun usage (e.g., 'them' referring back to 'employees' in a way that is slightly ambiguous in the first paragraph). Overall, the progression is logical and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific language such as 'bolster their social bonds', 'recreational activities', and 'unwind'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'mentally burnout' (should be 'mental burnout' or 'burnout') and 'stay for a shorter span' (which is slightly unnatural). The range is sufficient for the task but lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('it provide', 'enables worker'), missing articles ('participate in any sport activity'), and incorrect word forms ('feel tiring' instead of 'feel tired'). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, the writer should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of plural/singular nouns.
