Student answer (Band 5.0)

In the recent years , there has been growing dicussion about reducing the working week and giving employees a longer weekend. i am completely agree with this idea because the shorter weekend can improve the health of worker.

the main reason that i support a shorter working weeks because it effects the person physicallly and mentally.after the long week of working schedule a person become tired and exhausted and they do not properly focus on the work. due to longer weekend duties they are not able to spend times with the family and friends and cannot able to pursue their hobbies. for example in some countries such as Iceland and New zealand they do experiment of 4 working days it is successful because the worker do their work efficiently and tentively. All the worker become healthier and happier in life.

secondly the shorter working days in this they become more productive.when the employees rested well they do less mistakes as compared to long working days. instead of being unproductive for 5 days they do harder for 4 days.furthermore due shorter working days the usage of office reduce which become economically beneficial because the usage of electricity. after the weekend everyone is active and do every task corrcetly.some companies in Japan have already introduced 3day weekend and found that staff motivation and ouput improved.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of a shorter working week. However, the essay fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly limits the depth of the arguments provided. While the ideas regarding physical health and productivity are relevant, they are underdeveloped and lack sufficient elaboration or specific, detailed examples. The mention of Iceland and New Zealand is a good start, but the explanation remains superficial. To improve, you must expand your supporting points with more detailed analysis and ensure the essay reaches the required length to fully explore the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as the awkward transition 'secondly the shorter working days in this they become more productive'. There are also issues with sentence-level cohesion, where ideas are sometimes linked abruptly. Paragraphing is present, but the internal flow within paragraphs is often disjointed. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on using a wider variety of linking words more naturally and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors (e.g., 'dicussion', 'physicallly', 'tentively', 'corrcetly') and instances of awkward word choice, such as 'do experiment' instead of 'conducted experiments' and 'usage of office reduce'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic terms. To improve, you should work on using more precise academic collocations and ensure you proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes that distract the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('the worker do their work'), missing articles, and incorrect verb forms ('cannot able to pursue'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the text from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common grammatical slips will help improve your accuracy.
