Student answer (Band 6.5)
One of the most widely discussed topic in modern society is the necessity of longer weekend and the decrease in working week for the employs. In this essay I will examine both sides of the argument and provide my overall opinion. I strongly agree with this statement for the reasons I will outline below.
Firstly, the shorter working week allow people to get more rest and recover from work related stress. Due to longer working week many of the people have lost themselves where they did not want to be, if the working week is shorted then the people will have enough time to rest, they can dedicate some hours of their day to their family, friends, hobbies or interest and exercise. This is more likely to improve their physical and mental health.
Secondly, longer weekend makes people more creative and productive. Although employees will spend shorter hour or days at work, well rested and fresh mind works far more better then the exhausted brain. For example, if a company has gives longer weekend to their workers, then the worker will have enough rest and freshness all over their bodies, which will allow them to work more creatively. Worker will have more concentration and dedication towards their work, which results in the completion of the work more faster in a effective way.
However, some works such as, medical and transportation services may find it difficult to reduce the working hour due to the high demand of this field, the industry should manage the time of the workers accordingly.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that the worker should have longer weekend so they can recover from the work related stress and give some time to their loved ones, which will maintain the good physical and mental health of the employees.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant reasons for your agreement, such as improved mental health and increased productivity. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat repetitive; for instance, the focus on 'rest' and 'stress' appears in both body paragraphs. To reach a higher band, ensure that each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported argument rather than restating similar points. The counter-argument regarding essential services is briefly mentioned but could be more effectively integrated to show a more nuanced understanding of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally weak, such as in the phrase 'many of the people have lost themselves where they did not want to be', which is vague. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the transition between the counter-argument and the conclusion feels slightly abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'productivity', 'dedication', and 'essential services'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choices and minor errors, such as 'shorted' instead of 'shortened', 'more faster' (a double comparative error), and 'freshness all over their bodies'. These errors do not impede communication but indicate a need for more precise control over collocations and word forms. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary in a natural way rather than relying on repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the shorter working week allow', 'the worker will have') and article usage ('the necessity of longer weekend'). Additionally, there are punctuation and phrasing errors, such as 'well rested and fresh mind works far more better then the exhausted brain'. These errors occur frequently enough to be noticeable, though they do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument. Increasing your control over complex sentence structures will help improve this score.
