Student answer (Band 5.5)

There are different opinions on weather there should be less working weekdays and longer weekends. While many don't approve this point but I totally agree with this because it give you work life balance and quality time with your loved ones.

In my opinion, if you have less working days, you will have plenty of time to rest which in turn freshen up your soul and body. You have time for yourself, to do your chores and to pick up a hobby. It creates a perfect work life balance. Another point is you will have time to meet your your family and friends and spend quality time with them. To get to know about each other lives and to support them anyone is going through some hardships. Parents get to spend time with there children and be present in there crutial phase of their life. For instance, there are some countries who have started to implement longer weekends for their citizens to create good work life balance.

Other point of view is that people think that working week should be longer because of the economy of the country. If people work less days, there will be less productivity for the company which in turn less economic power for the country. And if working days are less, people have less wages and pays to survive there lifestyles.

In conclusion, longer weekends should be implemented in countries for people to have good work life balance and have time to spend with their family and friends.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of a shorter working week. The main arguments—work-life balance, personal well-being, and family time—are relevant. However, the development is somewhat superficial. While you mention that some countries have implemented this, you do not provide specific examples or detailed analysis to support your claims. The counter-argument regarding economic productivity is introduced but remains underdeveloped. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more specific evidence or logical consequences, ensuring that the discussion of the opposing view is balanced with your own position.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'In my opinion,' 'Another point is,' and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in your writing. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'support them anyone is going through'). The transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother to better highlight the contrast between your view and the opposing perspective. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall logical progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple phrasing such as 'good work life balance' and 'plenty of time,' which are repeated throughout the text. There are also some noticeable errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'weather' instead of 'whether,' 'there' instead of 'their,' and 'crutial' instead of 'crucial.' To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to economics and social well-being, and pay closer attention to spelling and homophones.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'many don't approve this point' (should be 'approve of'), 'it give you' (subject-verb agreement), and 'if you have less working days' (should be 'fewer'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with sentence fragments and awkward phrasing. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors limits the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of quantifiers like 'fewer' versus 'less' would be highly beneficial.
