Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of a shorter working week. The ideas regarding work-life balance and productivity are relevant and logically extended. However, the development is somewhat repetitive, particularly in the second body paragraph where the argument about physical and mental health is restated from the first paragraph. To reach a higher band, you should aim to introduce distinct supporting points rather than repeating the same concepts. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, maintaining a clear position throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'Additionally,' and 'As a result' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly hindered by awkward phrasing, such as 'The most important one to be considered that better life balance.' Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences flow more naturally into one another would enhance the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are some attempts at using more sophisticated phrases like 'work-life balance' and 'physical and mental health.' However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'impacts masses on positive way' and 'do less mistakes.' The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and the repetition of basic words like 'job' and 'work' suggests a need for a broader range of synonyms to demonstrate more flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the working week'), subject-verb agreement ('worker who rested well... they do less mistakes'), and preposition usage ('on positive way'). Some sentences are structurally incomplete or awkward, such as 'The most important one to be considered that better life balance.' To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with correct syntax.
