Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the modern era, modern workplaces continue to evolve, there has been a vigorous debate over the structure of the traditional five day workweek. Many argue that reducing the number of working days and extending the weekend can benefits both employees and employers. From my perspective, i strongly agree with this statement and i shall elaborate on my school of thought in the forthcoming essay.
To begin with, one of the most important reason for implementing a shorter working week is the improvement it can bring to work life balance. A briefer work schedule provides employees with more time for relaxation and personal activities, which helps maintain their mental well-being. With an extra day off each week, employees have more opportunities to pursue personal hobbies or spend quality time with their family and friends. Moreover, parents can spend their day off to engage with their children and participate in their child educational activities. For examples, having additional non working days helps workers prevent burnout and leads to more satisfied staff members.
On the other hand, a reduced work week may results in economic benefits. As workers enjoy more leisure days, companies may be required to hire additional staff to sustain productivity. Consequently creating potential job opportunities. this increase in job openings will reduce unemployment rates in the labor market. In addition, longer rest days can foster consumer spending. with more free time, people tend to be involved in several leisure activities, notably dining out, travelling, shopping, which drives economic development in various aspects.
In conclusion, reducing the length of the workweek and extending the break period offer numerous benefits for employees, enhancing their quality of life. a better work life balance and stimulating economic growth, shorter work day can lead to increased productivity and higher employees satisfaction.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding work-life balance and economic benefits are relevant and logically extended. However, the development is somewhat general; for instance, the claim that companies would hire more staff to sustain productivity is a strong point, but it could have been supported with a more specific example or a deeper explanation of how this affects profitability. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, though it introduces a slight repetition of ideas. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, there are some minor issues with punctuation and sentence structure that occasionally make the flow feel slightly mechanical. For example, the transition 'Consequently creating potential job opportunities' is a sentence fragment that should be integrated into the previous sentence. Despite these minor mechanical issues, the progression of ideas remains clear throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate and appropriate for the task. The student uses some good collocations such as 'vigorous debate', 'mental well-being', and 'unemployment rates'. There are some minor errors in word choice and form, such as 'can benefits' (should be 'can benefit') and 'child educational activities' (should be 'children's educational activities'). While the range is sufficient to convey ideas clearly, there is limited use of less common or idiomatic vocabulary that would be required for a higher band score. The language is functional and precise enough to avoid any confusion for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the student attempts complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as comma splices ('modern workplaces continue to evolve, there has been...') and subject-verb agreement issues ('a reduced work week may results in'). Additionally, there are capitalization errors, such as the lowercase 'i' when referring to the self. These errors are noticeable but do not impede the overall communication of the message. To reach a higher band, the student needs to improve control over sentence boundaries and ensure consistent grammatical accuracy in more complex structures.
