Student answer (Band 7.0)
t is often argued that the working week should be shorter and employees should be provided with a longer weekend. This essay agrees with the statement that these extra non working days undoubtedly provide the workers an opportunity to relax and unwind from their hectic working schedules. Moreover, This working system enhances the productivity of the workers who are employed under different companies. One of the main advantages of having a longer weekend is employees get a chance to relax from their daily chaos, which allows them to indulge in their own personal hobbies. This is because a significant number of employees work under pressure for different establishments, so having extra days off from work other than Saturday and Sunday will help them to focus on their hobbies and to engage in some leisure activities. As a result, they can utilise a significant amount of their time to immerse themselves into personal activities and to cultivate their hidden talents. For example, conglomerates in japan offer their workers a day off to invest their valuable time in themselves, enabling them to pursue their innate talents.A well rested employee delivers high quality performance, leading to more productivity in work settings. This is attributed to the fact that most of the employees in the modern society are trapped in a monotonous work culture, which diminishes their overall productivity of work. Consequently, this trend results in low energy to think of innovative ideas, low concentration levels and also reduced social interaction with co-workers. For instance, employees in India who work in the field of information technology often prefer to have a longer weekend to enhance their productivity, thereby maintaining their quality of work systematically. In conclusion, I firmly believe that extended weekends are highly beneficial for the employees who work in a monotonous work pattern as these trends can not only allow them to relax and unwind from the hectic schedules but also help them to enhance the productivity of their work.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating an agreement with the proposal for a shorter working week. The position is maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the mention of Japanese conglomerates and Indian IT professionals. However, the development of these ideas could be more nuanced; while the link between rest and productivity is clear, the argument could benefit from exploring potential counter-arguments or deeper analysis of the economic implications to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is well-focused and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'As a result', and 'Consequently' are used to link ideas effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. However, there are minor issues with mechanical cohesion; for instance, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph is slightly abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is a bit repetitive. Despite these minor points, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'hectic working schedules', 'monotonous work culture', and 'cultivate their hidden talents' show a good grasp of topic-specific language. There are occasional inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'conglomerates in japan' (which should be capitalized) and 'systematically' used in a slightly awkward context. However, the vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task and does not impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on more sophisticated collocations and ensure consistent capitalization.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over basic grammar, and complex structures are attempted with reasonable success. However, there are some persistent errors, such as the missing capitalization at the start of the first sentence ('t is often argued') and the incorrect capitalization of 'japan'. Additionally, there are minor punctuation errors, such as the lack of a space after the period in 'companies.One'. While these errors do not impede meaning, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. More attention to proofreading for minor slips would be beneficial.
