Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of a shorter working week. However, the development of ideas is inconsistent. While you provide reasons such as stress reduction and personal passion, the supporting arguments are often repetitive and lack depth. For instance, the discussion on Indian workers is vague and does not clearly link back to the core argument about the working week. To improve, ensure each paragraph introduces a distinct, well-supported point rather than restating the same idea about 'happiness' or 'stress' multiple times. The conclusion is also quite brief and does not effectively summarize the main points presented in the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'To illustrates' and 'The main reason for this that' are grammatically incorrect and disrupt the flow. Furthermore, the logical progression between sentences is sometimes weak; for example, the transition from discussing stress to the example of British people feels abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') more naturally and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally sufficient to communicate your message, but it is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic words like 'happy', 'jobs', and 'people'. There are also several instances of incorrect word choice and collocation, such as 'overcome from stress' (should be 'overcome stress') and 'travel out door' (should be 'travel outdoors'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to the workplace, such as 'work-life balance', 'productivity', 'mental well-being', or 'professional obligations'. Expanding your range will help you express your ideas with more sophistication and clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many people believe that working weeks ought be shorter'), missing articles, and incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'if have a longer weekends'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences often contain errors, such as 'The main reason for this that people merely far away toward jobs'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and pay closer attention to pluralization and article usage.
