Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often debated that the working days should be decreased in a week, and there should be more holidays at the end of the week. I strongly disagree with this idea as it would cause a significant increase in work load and can have major impacts on the economy.
A smaller working week would certainly lead to increase in the daily working hours. Every working place has a set of tasks that are needed to be completed in a fixed amount of time. So, if overall days for work are decreased, it would be compensated by the increase in working hours. For example, every school teacher is assigned a fixed syllabus that they cover in a week and if the weekend is increased in the days then they would certainly need more hours to complete the weekly and monthly syllabus targets.
Another consequence of the lesser working days would be a hit on the economy. All kind of economies whether they are local or international depends upon the productive hours spent on the work. So, if a full day or two removed from the week, then the productivity of that economy would plummet down and as a result would decrease it's size. For instance, the long vacations of Corona Virus pandemic caused huge losses in economy in every country due to the depreciated working hours.
In conclusion, I would not support the shorter working week due to the negative effects on the economy and a possible spike in regular working hours done in a day.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response clearly states a position in the introduction and maintains it throughout. The arguments regarding increased daily workload and economic impact are relevant and logically developed. However, the essay could be improved by exploring the counter-argument (the potential benefits of a shorter week) to provide a more balanced and nuanced discussion, which is expected for a higher band score. The examples provided, such as the school teacher and the COVID-19 pandemic, are pertinent and support the main points well. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, though the depth of analysis is somewhat limited.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'For example', 'Another consequence', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some phrasing, such as 'All kind of economies', is slightly awkward. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a solid band 6.5 or 7.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'plummet down' and 'depreciated', though the usage is occasionally imprecise. For instance, 'depreciated' is not the most natural collocation for working hours. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'All kind of economies' instead of 'All kinds of economies'. While the range is sufficient, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'it is often debated that the working days should be decreased' (passive voice usage is slightly unnatural here), 'it's size' (incorrect use of apostrophe for possessive 'its'), and 'if the weekend is increased in the days' (awkward phrasing). Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the mistakes do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, the writer should focus on improving accuracy in complex structures and ensuring correct punctuation.
