Student answer (Band 6.0)

The working week and weekend day schedule is a vital talk for all the working communities. Some of the employees prefer longer weekends and shorter working days as they think for more benefits and some seek longer working days for more productivity as compared to longer weekends. I prefer longer weekends and shorter working days. The essay will give the reason for this perspective.

To commence with, there are some benefits of having a longer weekend. Firstly, A long weekend for workers allows them to lessen the burden and stress. It gives them the ability to relax their body, to think out of the box, and to activate their minds, which is important for their mental health and physical health. For example, Ladies workers of Australia get spas and do yoga on their weekends. Moreover, long weekends can improve social relations. To illustrate my point People spend their time with their families and friends and go out to explore new cafes and meals and enjoy the company of their beloved ones. It offers them joy and motivation. Besides this, another important point is that shorter working week which can their enhance productivity. In other words, when workers have a better work-life balance, they tend to be more focused and efficient during working hours. A good illustration of this is companies that have introduced a four-day working week and reported better employee satisfaction along with improved performance. Therefore, reducing working hours does not necessarily decrease productivity; instead, it can urge people to work more effectively.

In contrast, longer weekend have its drawbacks. The organizations experience loss in productivity due to decreased working hours, which reduce their commercial earnings. Moreover, after extended weekends, employers become sluggish and demotivated, which makes it hard for them to go back to their jobs.

In conclusion, despite the difficulties of shorter working days, I favor long weekends since they have more positive points, such as improvement in social relations, mental and physical health, attention, and efficient job production, which are better for both employers and business holders.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, clearly stating a position in favor of shorter working weeks and longer weekends. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, such as the mention of mental health benefits and the four-day work week model. However, the development is occasionally uneven; for instance, the paragraph discussing the drawbacks of longer weekends is somewhat contradictory to the student's stated position and lacks depth. While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments could be more thoroughly explored to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'In contrast' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical or the referencing is slightly awkward, such as in the sentence 'Ladies workers of Australia get spas'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. While the progression is generally clear, the transition between the benefits and the drawbacks could be smoother to enhance the overall coherence of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'work-life balance', 'productivity', and 'commercial earnings'. There are some instances of awkward phrasing or word choice, such as 'vital talk' instead of 'important topic' and 'Ladies workers' instead of 'female employees'. Additionally, there are minor errors in collocation, such as 'efficient job production'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, the use of less common items is somewhat limited, and the errors occasionally detract from the precision of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'longer weekend have its drawbacks' (subject-verb agreement) and 'can their enhance productivity' (word order). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor slips throughout. The student shows an attempt at complex structures, but these are not always error-free. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent the response from reaching a higher band. More attention to subject-verb agreement and article usage would improve the accuracy significantly.
