Student answer (Band 5.0)
/Environmental problems
Nowadays, environmental problems are becoming more serious in many parts of the world. Air pollution, climate change, plastic waste, and nature. Some people believes that individuals can solve these problems , while others thinks that government and large companies should take responsibility. In my opinion, both individuals and authorities have an important role to play.
Firstly, governments should introduce strict laws to protect the environment. For example, factories that produce harmful gases should be controlled, and companies should be encouraged to use clean energy. Government can also improve public transports so that fewer people use private cars and other vehicles. This can reduce pollution and traffic problems.
On the other hand. individuals can also make a difference through their daily habits. People should avoid using unnecessary plastics, save water and electricity and should reduce noise. They can also use bicycles or public transport instead of cars whenever possible. Although these actions may seems small, they can have a positive effect when millions of people follow them.
Furthermore, schools should teach children about environmental protection from an early age. This can help create a generation that understands the importance of keeping the Earth clean and healthy.
In conclusion, environmental problems cannot be solved by one group alone. Governments, businesses, schools, and ordinary people must have to work together. If everyone takes responsibility and makes sensible choices, we can create a cleaner and safer environment for future generations. Everyone must work together to protect the environment and create a healthier future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 3.0
The response is completely off-topic. The prompt asks for an opinion on whether the working week should be shorter and the weekend longer. However, the essay discusses environmental problems, pollution, and government responsibility for the environment. Because the student failed to address the actual task question, the response cannot be assessed for task achievement in relation to the prompt provided. It is a memorized or irrelevant essay on a different topic. Consequently, it fails to meet the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs with clear topic sentences, such as 'Firstly, governments should introduce...' and 'On the other hand, individuals can also...'. Cohesive devices like 'Furthermore' and 'In conclusion' are used correctly to link ideas. While the content is irrelevant to the prompt, the internal structure of the essay itself is coherent and follows a standard academic format. The progression of ideas is logical within the context of the environmental topic chosen by the writer.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, showing a range of topic-specific terms such as 'environmental protection', 'harmful gases', 'clean energy', and 'sensible choices'. There are some minor errors, such as 'Some people believes' (subject-verb agreement) and 'may seems' (verb form), but these do not impede communication. The range is sufficient to express the ideas clearly, though it lacks the sophistication or precision required for higher band scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Some people believes', 'others thinks') and incorrect verb forms ('may seems'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, though there are some awkward sentence fragments, such as 'Air pollution, climate change, plastic waste, and nature.' Despite these errors, the meaning is generally clear, and the grammar does not prevent the reader from understanding the writer's intended message.
