Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 182 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, which remain superficial and repetitive. While the essay attempts to address the prompt, the arguments are vague; for example, the essay discusses 'the weekend' in general terms rather than addressing the specific proposal of a shorter working week. The position is stated but lacks the depth and supporting evidence required for a higher band. Because the response is substantially under-length, the development of the topic is insufficient to meet the criteria for a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive feature. However, the progression of ideas is often unclear due to the lack of specific content. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand', but they are sometimes used mechanically or to connect ideas that are not fully developed. The referencing is occasionally confusing, such as the use of 'it' without a clear antecedent in several sentences. The overall structure is logical in its layout, but the lack of substantial content makes the flow feel disjointed.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'in modern society' and 'advantages and disadvantages' are used frequently. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'gained significantly attention' (should be 'significant attention') and 'balance manner' (should be 'balanced manner'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, you should focus on using more precise academic collocations and ensuring that word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'advantages has argue that disadvantages' (a sentence fragment with incorrect verb usage) and 'it improve efficiency' (subject-verb agreement error). There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the existing sentences are often simple or contain errors in tense and structure. Punctuation is generally functional, but the overall control of grammar is weak, with errors occurring in almost every sentence, which prevents the essay from reaching a higher band.
