Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent year, it is often argued that working week should be reduced so that employee can enjoy a longer weekend. I strongly agree with the notion because a shorter working week can improve productivity of the employee and also provides a work life balance.
The main reason for supporting the shorter week is the it can provide employee with a better work-life balance. Many employee spend a significant amount of time working have a little opportunity to relax, refresh and recharge from a busy exhausting week. This often led to skipping exercise or a less time to spend with family or friend another reason to ruin a work-life balance. An addition, day of will give them some to recover from work related stress and focus on their physical health and increase opportunities for a healthy relationship in a family. For instance, a company in the Germany have experimented a 4 days work week for some time and they fine that employees feel less stress burnouts.
Another important advantage is that shorter working hours can actually improve productivity. Working for longer hours does not necessarily mean employee feel focused towards their task, tired employee often makes more mistakes. Moreover, giving them extra day for weekend allows them to concentrate more on their work and able to achieve goals effectively and efficiently.
To conclude, i strongly agree that shorter working week not only increase the productivity of the employee but also help in better work-life balance.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position that the working week should be shorter to improve productivity and work-life balance. Ideas are extended and supported, such as mentioning the German company experiment and the psychological benefits of rest. However, the response is negatively impacted by the word count being 5 words under the 250-word minimum, which restricts the depth of development in certain areas. Furthermore, there are some minor over-generalisations and slightly repetitive points regarding work-life balance. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, but the length penalty prevents it from reaching a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. It is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, which establishes a coherent overall arrangement. Cohesive devices are used to signal relationships between ideas, such as 'The main reason for supporting...', 'Moreover,', and 'To conclude,'. However, some referencing is slightly faulty or mechanical, and paragraph transitions could be smoother. For instance, the transition within the first body paragraph becomes somewhat cluttered with multiple ideas packed together ('Another reason to ruin a work-life balance. An addition, day of will give them...'). Despite these occasional awkward cohesive ties, the general progression of the argument remains clear to the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'productivity', 'work-life balance', and 'burnouts'. However, there are noticeable word-choice, collocation, and grammatical form errors throughout the text, such as 'In recent year' instead of 'In recent years', 'employee' instead of the plural 'employees', 'day of' instead of 'days off', and 'fine' instead of 'found'. Additionally, there are awkward phrasing choices like 'another reason to ruin a work-life balance'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they reflect a lack of precision that keeps the score at this band level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure. For example, the sentence 'Working for longer hours does not necessarily mean employee feel focused towards their task...' shows an attempt at subordination. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and article usage (e.g., 'a company in the Germany', 'employees feel less stress burnouts', 'tired employee often makes'). Punctuation errors are also present, such as starting the final conclusion paragraph with a lowercase 'i'. These errors persist throughout the text, though they rarely impede overall comprehension, placing it firmly in the band 5.5 to 6.0 range.
