Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that the working week should be reduced so that employees can enjoy a extended weekend. I agree with this statement because a less work in a week can enhance workers well-being and can contribute a significant increase in the productivity rate.

One of the reasons I believe that the working week should be shorter than usual because this strategy help workers to have better mental and physical health. Furthermore, during long weekends most of the workers spend their time with family and friends, which helps them to release stress and improve overall well -being. Most of the employees spend there time by involving themselves in physical activities like running and go to road trips ,therefore they experience new environment. For example, many global companies have shorter working week and also provide their employees with all basic amenities they need for weekends. These companies ask their employees to work remotely for 2 to 3 days in a week.

Moreover, shorter working week and extended weekend can boost the productivity of employees. This can embolden them and well-rested employees are more relaxed, so there prime focus is work. They use their competencies in right direction .As a result, better outcome of tasks are produced. For instance, Google prefer there employees to work 2 to 3 days in a week ,which encourages there employees to work with strong determination and that is the reason they are leading firm all around the globe.

In conclusion, I believe extended weekend and shortened working week are more beneficial for the overall well-being of employees and higher productivity rate.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing that the working week should be shortened and that workers should have a longer weekend. Main ideas regarding enhanced well-being and increased productivity are introduced and supported with explanations and examples, such as referencing the benefits of spending time with family and mentioning global companies like Google. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or prone to over-generalisation, such as the claim that employees only work two to three days a week in such companies. Overall, the task is adequately fulfilled, corresponding to a Band 6.5 descriptor where all parts are addressed with relevant ideas, though some could be more rigorously extended.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs supporting the stance, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments regarding health and productivity. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in repetitive sentence starters and basic cohesive devices like 'Furthermore', 'Moreover', and 'For example'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'that is the reason they are leading firm'. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical, fitting a Band 6 level where the overall structure is coherent despite mechanical cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student displays an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'productivity rate', 'amenities', 'competencies', and 'determination'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, incorrect word forms, and collocation issues throughout the text. For instance, the writer uses 'a extended weekend' instead of 'an extended weekend', 'a less work' instead of 'less work', 'spend there time' instead of 'spend their time', and 'go to road trips' instead of 'go on road trips'. These inaccuracies demonstrate an attempt at less common vocabulary with mixed success, aligning closely with the Band 6 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over multi-clause structures such as 'I agree with this statement because a less work in a week can enhance workers well-being'. Nevertheless, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('a extended weekend'), incorrect prepositions ('in a week' vs 'per week'), pronoun confusion ('there employees' instead of 'their employees'), and minor punctuation spacing issues ('well -being'). Although these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede overall communication, placing the response firmly at a Band 6 for grammar.
