Student answer (Band 5.0)

The working week should be shorter, i agree with this statement because we are made for living not for working the whole week, morning to evening. we also need rest in our life want free time for the rest and enjoy and also weekend should be the long for enjoying parties and doing nothing just watching movies and eating popcorn. Chilling with friends and giving time to our families, taking them outside for the chilling, so i guess the weekend should be the long. i also agree with this statement. let me give an example of mine, i work whole week first four day i got classes in my university because I'm doing master in philosophy in chemistry , so i have classes in university after that i have a part time job for just three hour after lunch 3-6 then i get rest for 1 hour then again i got a tuition online , so these all are for survive , nee to pay the hostel fee univeristy fees and my living expenses so i should have to work then at the weekend i go to my home my village, which having a wonderful view but i can't see it , because i have alot of work there with my father i just go with my father for there work, because I'm intelligent person so he needs me for the technical work, so i go there and my whole weekend goes doing these things and after that when i go back to university brain is not properly braining because i need rest after work , so thats all , thats way im agree with you because working whole week and not getting any holiday for rest is not in my life hehe.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position of agreement with the idea that the working week should be shorter and weekends longer. The candidate attempts to support this position with personal anecdotes regarding their busy schedule involving university studies, a part-time job, online tutoring, and family obligations in their village. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and heavily anecdotal rather than exploring broader socioeconomic arguments. While the position is clear, the development is informal and resembles spoken English rather than an academic essay, leading to a Band 5.5 performance for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text suffers significantly from a lack of proper paragraphing, as it is presented as one long, continuous block of text. Cohesive devices are weak, repetitive, and heavily reliant on comma splices and run-on sentences (e.g., 'so i guess', 'so these all are for survive'). Although there is a chronological attempt to explain the writer's weekly routine and weekend obligations, the overall progression is cluttered and difficult to follow. Paragraphing is absent entirely, which is a major constraint under the coherence criteria, aligning with a Band 5.0 score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is largely basic and repetitive, featuring everyday phrases such as 'watching movies and eating popcorn', 'chilling with friends', and 'doing these things'. There are noticeable lexical and collocation errors, such as 'for survive' instead of 'for survival', 'the long' instead of 'longer', and the colloquial phrasing 'brain is not properly braining'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic meaning, the lack of precision and limited range place this at a Band 5.0 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The grammatical structure is heavily compromised by severe punctuation issues, specifically frequent run-on sentences and comma splices throughout the response. There is a very limited range of controlled complex structures, and the text relies mostly on simple, poorly connected clauses. Frequent errors include missing capitalization ('i', 'university'), tense inconsistencies, and awkward phrasing ('which having a wonderful view'). These grammatical inaccuracies and punctuation flaws consistently cause difficulty for the reader, resulting in a Band 4.5 score.
