Student answer (Band 6.0)

Indubitably, in the current era, the working culture is getting very stressed due to long working days in a week. To solve this problem and many others, a number of working days ought to be less to get a long weekend. I strongly agree with this and my opinion will be articulated in subsequent paragraphs.

At the outset, there are numerous reasons for having a long weekend by minimising the working days and first and foremost is to enhance skills. To describe it more, if individuals gets multiple days off then they can work to sharpen their skills and also can learn new skills to get a promotion and higher pay in the future. For example, for a managerial level job, multiple skills are required and a person has only a weekend to learn thus that person will easily manage and utilise effectively the days off.

Moreover, an employee can go on a long holiday. To be more precise, on short weekends going on trips outside town with family is difficult. So, family can spend more time with each other and can go on a short trip to outstation to explore more places. Furthermore, for some people, a job is only a way to earn and they do it without having an interest in it, as a result, it is hard to follow their own passion because of lack of time but if that person gets long weekend, then that time can be spent by following passion and working on hobbies.

To recapitulate, there are various reasons that a working week should be shorter and workers should have a longer weekend such as learning new skills, spending more time with family members and following their passion or dreams.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and consistent position in favour of a shorter working week and longer weekend. The ideas presented are relevant and supported with explanations, such as the opportunity to learn new skills for career progression, take long holidays, and pursue personal passions. While some ideas like skill development are somewhat generalised, the main arguments are sufficiently extended and developed. Phrases like 'I strongly agree with this and my opinion will be articulated in subsequent paragraphs' help set up the response. Overall, the task is well handled, meeting the expectations for a Band 6.5 or 7.0 response in terms of addressing the prompt thoroughly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is coherently structured with an introduction, two distinct body paragraphs focusing on different benefits, and a clear concluding summary. The student uses a variety of cohesive devices to link ideas, such as 'At the outset', 'Moreover', and 'To recapitulate'. However, referencing and transitions can occasionally feel slightly mechanical or awkward, as seen in phrases like 'To describe it more' and 'to outstation'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct arguments. Logical progression is maintained throughout, ensuring the reader can easily follow the author's train of thought, matching the descriptors for Band 6.5 to 7.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common lexical items such as 'Indubitably', 'minimising', and 'recapitulate'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'working culture is getting very stressed' instead of 'stressful', 'to outstation', and 'following passion' missing an article or plural form. Despite these occasional slips and awkward phrasings, the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main ideas clearly, aligning well with the Band 6.0 descriptors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar with attempts at subordination (e.g., 'if individuals gets multiple days off then they can work...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('individuals gets', 'family can spend'), missing articles, and slightly convoluted sentence structures like 'thus that person will easily manage and utilise effectively the days off'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but run-on tendencies appear in longer sentences. These errors occasionally cause slight hesitation for the reader but rarely impede overall communication, placing this response firmly in the Band 6.0 category.
