Student answer (Band 6.5)

To be honest, the idea of having a shorter working week always excites me and makes me wonder about the activities I am not able to do in the weekend. It rarely happens when I actually feel like getting enough of the weekend. The constant work pressure, deadlines, meetings and project submissions thorughout the week drains every last bit of my energy. In this discussion I will explain why a worklife balance is utterly important for everyone and why we should have longer weekends to catchup on things that just remains on calender and on our to-do lists.

Being a data analyst/ engineer I have been working in the industry from 5 years, and sometimes I feel exhausted from the work pressure, daily standups and constant worklog which never ends. I personally believe that duration of working week should be reduced so employees can have a little bit more flexiblity to maintain a good balance between professional and personal life.

There are few countries where employees work for 4.5 days and spend the rest of week with their families, or presuaing activities like e-gaming, short tours, visiting on relatives, exploring the city and much more. These countries are tend to have much more happy and satified employees with their job.

Having a longer weekend not only helps one to relax and catcup on other stuff but also enhances their creativiity levels. The work from home culture is another alternative which allows employees to maintain a healthy lifestlye while being creative and productive on professional side.

Based on my presonal experince, I used to work on 6 days a week from previous company where I felt like spending my whole week sitting on chair working with computers. It started having negative impact on my health. Consquently, I got fed up and switched to another company where they offered 3 days office and 2 days WFH policy.

In my current role, i feel much relaxed and able to maintain a healthy work-life balance to manage both work with productivity and also able spend more time with my family and friends.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that they agree with the idea of a shorter working week and longer weekends. The response is supported by relevant personal experiences, such as switching companies to achieve a better work-life balance, and examples of countries implementing 4.5-day workweeks. However, some ideas are slightly anecdotal rather than broadly developed, and the introduction contains a slightly conversational tone ("To be honest..."). Despite minor limitations in depth, the main position is sustained and all requirements of the prompt are satisfactorily covered, aligning well with the Band 7 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay displays a clear overall progression. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body points focusing on different aspects of the argument, and the personal conclusion. Cohesive devices are generally present, such as "In this discussion I will explain," "There are few countries," and "Consequently," though some referencing is occasionally mechanical. While the logical flow is mostly clear, a few transitional links between paragraphs could be smoother. Overall, the organizational structure meets the requirements for a Band 6.5 to 7.0, with clear logical progression throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, incorporating less common lexical items such as "work-life balance," "data analyst/ engineer," "creativity levels," and "productivity." However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors, such as "thorughout" (throughout), "catcup" (catch up), "presuaing" (pursuing), "tend to have much more happy and satified" (tend to have much happier and satisfied), and "presonal experince" (personal experience). These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the score from reaching a higher band, placing the response firmly at Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses (e.g., "...activities that just remains on calender and on our to-do lists."). There are several grammatical errors and punctuation issues throughout, including subject-verb agreement errors ("activities that just remains", "These countries are tend to have"), missing articles ("in previous company"), and lowercase capitalization at the start of sentences ("i feel much relaxed"). While these errors do not prevent comprehension, they recur frequently enough to keep the response at Band 6.
