Student answer (Band 5.5)

some argue that the working week should be shorter and employees should have longer weekend.I completely agree with this statement because extended weekend will boost productivity and it will promote healthy work life balance.

The principal reason behind supporting this narrative is enhanced productivity of workers.

When workers will work less days, they are more likely to perform better because they will have enough rest during weekend. They will be more focused during their job activities as they had enough time to perform their household tasks

on their off days. This will ultimately reduce their chances of burnout due to workload. For instance, In Islamabad which is capital city of Pakistan, employee are supposed to work only four days in a week. Consequently, workers job satisfaction rate is significantly higher than other cities of the state.

Another major reason to favor this stance is it will foster work life balance among individuals. Many workers complain that they get drained by long working week and on weekends they cannot give time to family as they keep sleeping whole day. Many parents miss to spend quality time with theor children as they are already fatigued so they prefer to stay at home instead of going out with family for recreation. For instance, police employees in Pakistan often expeess their guilt feelings for not spending quality time with their family as they work seven days a week.

in conclusion, I believe extended weekends can allow individuals to spend quality time with their family members, while it will boost employees productivity at the job site.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, taking a clear and well-defined position in complete agreement with the statement. The ideas presented, such as enhanced productivity and a better work-life balance, are directly relevant to the topic. These main points are supported by explanations and examples, notably the reference to employees in Islamabad and police workers in Pakistan. However, some of the supporting examples and explanations are slightly under-developed or rely on broad generalizations. For instance, the claim about Islamabad's four-day work week lacks official context. Nevertheless, the position is maintained throughout, satisfying the requirements for a Band 6.5 or solid Band 6 descriptor.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing distinct points, and a brief conclusion. However, there are significant mechanical issues in cohesion and formatting, such as missing spaces after periods (e.g., 'weekend.I completely', 'tasks on their off days. This') and capitalization errors at the start of sentences (e.g., 'in conclusion'). Paragraphing is used to separate ideas, but referencing and transitional phrasing can be mechanical and occasionally repetitive. Cohesive devices are used, but sometimes inaccurately or clumsily, leading to a choppy reading experience. These cohesion flaws prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'productivity', 'burnout', 'job satisfaction rate', and 'recreation'. However, there are notable lexical errors, inaccuracies in word choice, and minor spelling mistakes (e.g., 'expeess' instead of express, 'theor' instead of their). Collocations are sometimes awkward, such as 'give time to family' instead of 'spend time with family'. Despite these errors, communication is not impeded, and the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, placing it comfortably in the Band 6 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at structures like conditional or dependent clauses (e.g., 'When workers will work less days...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding tense consistency and modal/verb forms (e.g., 'When workers will work' instead of 'When workers work', 'they had enough time' instead of 'they have had' or 'they have'). Punctuation errors are also prominent, notably missing spaces after punctuation marks and capitalization issues. While these errors do not severely impede communication, their frequency prevents the score from reaching Band 6.
