Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that working week should be shorter along with workers should have longer weekend. i completely disagree with it because, working week is normal and no need to change or reduce it.

The main reason why i disagree is that workers already have 2 days for rest and no work on these two days. Its enough days for someone to take a rest and be ready for next whole week work. If we give long weekend than it will reduce progress of any industry institute or organization. For example , the government institutes have 2 days weekend for their employees. After that they will have to work . But what if we give 3 or more days for rest, it will make employees lazy . As a result, It will stop alot of work and also delay in important work of citizans of that country that will be a bad effect on the progress. So, their is no need to change weekend.

Another important reason is that if we give long week with shorter work, it will make revenue low than now a days. Sales will be less and profit also decrease. All these things make any inddustry go toward loss. For instance, rice meal industries of pakistan is getting alot of revenue and profit. They are giving good salary to their colleages. However, if they will give 4 days weekend with short work to do than industries will not genrerate good benifiets and it will effect on salary of the workers that work in these companies.

In conculsion, working week dont need to be decrease or huge holiday. Now a days everything is best and managed. we are geeting good sales and also workers get good salary. If we make any change, it will cost very expensive to us .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The candidate addresses the prompt directly by taking a clear position against shortening the working week, supporting this stance with reasons such as the risk of reduced industrial productivity and declining corporate revenue. However, the development of ideas leans towards over-generalisation and repetition rather than deep elaboration. While the response covers the main parts of the task, the arguments regarding economic loss and employee laziness remain somewhat limited and under-developed. Examples provided, such as the rice meal industries of Pakistan, are somewhat informal and narrowly focused, but they do attempt to anchor the argument in real-world contexts. These features align best with Band 6.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established from the beginning and maintained throughout. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct points, such as productivity concerns in the second paragraph and revenue impacts in the third. However, cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical, evidenced by repetitive transitional phrases and awkward referencing, as seen in sentences starting abruptly without adequate linking. Pronoun referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'all these things make any inddustry go toward loss'). Furthermore, punctuation errors at sentence boundaries disrupt the natural flow of ideas. These organizational characteristics place the response firmly at Band 5.5, balancing Band 5 and 6 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey basic arguments about work schedules and economic impact. However, the range is limited, and there are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation throughout the text. Examples include spelling mistakes like 'inddustry', 'citizans', 'benifiets', 'conculsion', and 'geeting', alongside awkward phrasing such as 'cost very expensive to us' and 'rice meal industries'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with limited success, and while these lexical shortcomings do not completely impede communication, they frequently draw attention and restrict the score to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty. There are persistent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('working week should be shorter', 'next whole week work'), incorrect preposition usage ('work in these companies'), subject-verb agreement issues ('working week dont need'), and numerous capitalization errors (e.g., lowercase 'i' used for the pronoun). Punctuation is also problematic, with missing apostrophes ('Its enough days', 'ther is no need') and run-on structures. These errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader and reflect a solid Band 5 level of grammatical control.
