Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear position ('I strongly agree with this statement') and supporting it with relevant ideas such as health benefits, reduced stress, and increased productivity. Ideas are extended with examples from countries like New Zealand and Australia, as well as corporate instances involving McDonald's and Google. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise and some points, particularly the examples, are somewhat repetitive in expression and slightly under-developed in terms of structured analysis. According to the Band 6 and 7 descriptors, the response addresses all parts and presents a clear position, though some ideas lack deeper elaboration. Therefore, a band score of 6.5 is appropriate.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. However, cohesion at the sentence level is frequently faulty and mechanical. There are noticeable run-on sentences and punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after periods (e.g., 'statement.A longer'), and referencing is occasionally unclear (e.g., 'These can change the workers life'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the main body paragraph is overly dense and lacks clear internal signposting, making the progression harder to follow at times. This aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors, where cohesion is sometimes faulty and paragraphing can be improved.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'productivity', 'innovations', 'amenties', and 'coporate trials'. However, there are numerous word choice, spelling, and collocation errors, such as 'balance working time' instead of 'balanced working hours', 'enchance' instead of 'enhance', 'as weel' instead of 'as well', and 'amenties' instead of 'amenities'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, but they prevent the student from reaching a higher band. The lexical range is sufficient for communication, earning a band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses ('people who work their for their betterment') and conditional-like structures. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, articles, prepositions, and sentence structure (e.g., comma splices and run-ons such as 'For example, countries like Newzealand, Australia more developing countries having a excellent balance working hours...'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of grammatical slips means that error-free sentences are not in the majority. This corresponds precisely to the Band 5 descriptors.
