Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is undeniable that many people spend a large part of their lives at work. In this regards, the working week should be shorter so employers

can have a longer weekend. I largely agree with this view. This essay will be outlined not only the reasons but also my opinion in forthcoming

paragraphs with a logical conclusion.

To commence with, there are several reasons of this nation. The prime one is that health benefits. To explain it, If workers got longer weekend. They can give proper time to

their heath. They can maintain their heath with exercises and take more sleep for recover their body. For example, a survey contained by WHO,

they tell they that nowadays people are becoming unhealthy and affected by serious diseases because they have to work for long time and has heavily work. Thus, long leaves save individual from this situation. The another one is that, better time for the family and friends. To justify it, many workers spend a lot of time on work. They do not have time for their family and hobbies. If people got shorter working week. They can spend quality time with their children and parents and also can visit their relatives home. For example, a worker who gets the three days off at the weekends, can use this time to travel, exercise or spends time with children.

However, there are also some demerits of this statement for companies. First and formest is that is financially burden. If companies provide long days off to their employees. They have to increase the number of workers so this create financial issues among companies. for example, a published newspaper printed about the survey in 2024. They tell that many companies increase the number of leaves. It put a significant impact on financial situation and

productivity.

In conclusion, although there are also few demerits of this notion for companies, yet it have many benefits to people such as health

benefits and proper time for family which can never be neglected at any cost.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt directly, taking a clear stance that the working week should be shorter to allow for a longer weekend. The writer presents relevant main ideas, including health benefits and improved quality of family time, alongside a counterargument concerning financial burdens for companies. However, some ideas are underdeveloped or repetitive. For instance, the discussion on health relies on basic assertions and fragment sentences like 'To explain it, If workers got longer weekend. They can give proper time to their heath.' While all parts of the task are addressed, the support and extension of ideas lack the depth required for higher bands, placing this performance solidly at Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate main points and counterarguments. However, referencing and cohesion are frequently faulty, mechanical, or unnatural. The writer relies heavily on template-like transitional phrases such as 'To commence with,' 'To explain it,' and 'To justify it,' which often introduce sentence fragments rather than smoothly flowing clauses. Furthermore, referencing pronouns are sometimes ambiguous, as seen in 'The another one is that,' which detracts from the overall flow and demonstrates the characteristics of a Band 5.5 to 6.0 performance.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their general meaning effectively. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary items such as 'undeniable,' 'demerits,' and 'productivity.' However, there are numerous word choice, collocation, and grammatical form errors, such as 'In this regards,' 'reasons of this nation' (likely meaning notion), 'take more sleep for recover,' and 'First and formest is that is financially burden.' These errors, combined with noticeable spelling and morphological slips like 'heath' instead of 'health,' restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.5, rounding to a Band 6.0 for adequate communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is inconsistent. There are frequent structural errors, particularly with sentence boundaries, clause linkage, and verb forms. Examples include sentence fragments ('If workers got longer weekend. They can give proper time to their heath.'), subject-verb agreement issues ('this create financial issues'), and tense/infinitive errors ('for recover their body'). Punctuation is also problematic, with periods incorrectly separating dependent clauses. While the meaning is generally clear despite these errors, the high frequency of basic grammatical mistakes prevents the response from achieving a higher band.
