Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to address the prompt by expressing a clear position agreeing that the working week should be shorter and weekends longer. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive, with arguments about stress relief and family issues remaining relatively surface-level. Furthermore, the response suffers from a critical shortcoming in length: it contains 235 words, which falls below the mandatory 250-word minimum specified for IELTS Task 2. This under-length impacts the overall fullness of task completion and prevents the score from reaching the higher bands. Consequently, the task achievement is marked down due to the length penalty. Band score: 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and an unfinished conclusion, showing an attempt at overall organisation. However, the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by mechanical and faulty cohesive devices, such as 'Significantly,' and 'Moreover,' used somewhat awkwardly. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the abrupt end to the conclusion indicates a lack of smooth transitions and logical completion. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is weak. Band score: 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for discussing work-life balance. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'psycological,' 'anxiet,' and 'productivity,' but these are heavily undermined by frequent spelling errors ('indivisuals', 'burdon', 'reslax', 'marraid') and inappropriate word choices. Many words are repeated frequently throughout the text, and errors occasionally cause strain for the reader, fitting the Band 5 profile where noticeable lexical errors and spelling mistakes are persistent. Band score: 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The essay demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. While there are a few attempts at complex sentences using subordinate clauses, these are frequently faulty, such as in 'Because shorter week make indivisuals to be stresfull for shorter period of time, it do enhance working abality'. Frequent errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and sentence construction are present throughout the text, often causing difficulty for the reader. Simple sentences dominate, and control over punctuation is weak. Band score: 4.5.
