Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The student attempts to address the prompt by stating a partial agreement, noting that the essay will discuss the significance of work and weekends. However, the response is severely truncated at only 84 words, which falls well short of the mandatory 250-word minimum. Consequently, the task is only minimally addressed, and the ideas cannot be properly developed or extended. According to the band descriptors, responding to the task so minimally severely limits the Task Achievement score, as the arguments are cut off mid-sentence and left underdeveloped.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The student attempts basic paragraphing and introduces the essay with a standard introductory sentence ('In this modern era...'). However, due to the extreme brevity of the text, cohesive devices and logical progression are very limited. The response cuts off abruptly in the middle of the second paragraph, meaning there is no clear overall progression or conclusion. Referencing and paragraphing are fundamentally incomplete because the text is too short to establish a coherent argumentative structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The student uses a very basic and repetitive vocabulary range, such as 'modern era', 'working hours', 'longer weekend', and 'significance of work'. While these words are relevant to the topic, the limited length of the text means there is little opportunity to demonstrate a wider lexical resource. There are awkward phrases such as 'I partially both agree or disagree', which demonstrates a lack of precision in collocation and phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The grammatical structures attempted are relatively simple, and there are noticeable errors, such as the redundant formulation 'partially both agree or disagree' and spacing/punctuation issues like 'longer weekend.I partially' and 'their were not any type'. The range of structures is extremely limited because the text is cut off after only a few sentences. Although some basic sentences are formed correctly, the frequency of errors relative to the tiny output prevents a higher score.
