Student answer (Band 6.0)

Workers should have an extended weekend by reducing the working week. I totally agree with the statement and this essay discusses the reasons and the suitable examples to support my view.

First of all, we all know the crucial importance of work-life balance in the community. Different companies follow different policies regarding the working days, weekends, and holidays. Most of the time, we see people doing hard work without proper rests and holidays. And in many cases, people are mentally disturbed because of longer sessions of work with proper rest, holidays or weekend. Even worse, they do this without the benefit of overtime payment. Everyone deserves a proper life routine at work. With minimum weekend, people are unable to relax and spend some good time with family and friends. So, these people are not able to continue with fresh mind and energy and this impacts the team goals. A team without proper weekend and holidays means a team without active mind. I cannot expect the targeted perfomance from them. These are the main reasons why extended weekend is important.

Let me share an example of one friend of mine (Sarah). She works 4 days in a week and spend weekend and holidays with family and friends. I saw her achieving her dream life. Hiking at mountains, cinemas, outing dinners, coffees and watching sports games in stadiums are her common activities while she is working and I found her very happy and satisfied in her life.

In conclusion, I must say, Working weeks are important but without proper weekend, perfomance from workers id not possible. There should be the proper policies and implementation that make sure both targeted work and relaxation of employ is achieved. So, I am still standing with my agreement with the given statement.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt directly and takes a clear, consistent position agreeing that the working week should be shorter with an extended weekend. The ideas are extended with reasons and an example, such as the mention of work-life balance and the personal anecdote about Sarah. However, some arguments lack deep development and tend to over-generalise, such as the repetitive assertions regarding active minds and team performance. The explanation is somewhat conversational in tone. Nonetheless, all parts of the task are addressed with a clear position maintained throughout, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, cohesion is at times faulty and mechanical, particularly in the transitions between sentences in the second body paragraph where ideas feel strung together with basic conjunctions like 'And' and 'So'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the ambiguous pronoun reference in 'these people'. While the progression of ideas is generally understandable, the cohesive devices used are sometimes inadequate or repetitive, placing the response firmly at Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating key concepts regarding work-life balance and psychological well-being. There are several attempts to use less common vocabulary and phrases, such as 'crucial importance', 'mentally disturbed', and 'satisfied in her life'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and spelling inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'perfomance' instead of performance, 'employ' instead of employee, and awkward collocations like 'doing hard work without proper rests'. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the score from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over sentence structure. There are instances of correct complex structures, such as conditional or participial ideas, alongside simpler declarative sentences. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'working days, weekends, and holidays', 'sessions of work with proper rest', 'With minimum weekend', and 'perfomance from workers id not possible'. Punctuation and article usage also show inconsistencies. Although these errors do not severely impede overall comprehension, they occur with enough frequency to warrant a Band 5.5.
