Student answer (Band 5.0)

There is think in everyone that working hour should increase and this will increase holidays for worker. I partially agree with this statement and belive that shortrer working time help to find relax but also have effect in economy.

On the one hand, when pepole have to work less then they get more time to relax and this bring benefit for family because family members can spend more time with each other. Additionally, one can develop their skills in different extra curriculum activites such as learn musie, dance, drawing and language of different nations. These skills make people get recharge in every time.

On the other hand, when someone get more time to relax they become lazy and remain in comfort zone don't develop their professional skills as well as they are not competitive for their success. Moreover, longer weekend slower the wheel of our economy as world are running so fast and technology develop and change very rapidly. If a nation increase their relaxing time than activity time they can not sustain in competitive world because utilizing time and work more is the key to develop economically. However, sometimes more free time cause to involve in ilegal activites for instance drugs, prone and extra marital affairs which destroy family and social peace. When some one get some little relaxing time after a long work then they use this time for precisely and thinkful way. They have a value for this free time.

In conculsion, shorter working helps people to relax more and do exrta activites but to become economically strong one should spend more time to do work otherwise they become involve in corruptional activites.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the argument regarding shorter working weeks and longer weekends, presenting a partial agreement. The writer covers several main points, such as the benefits of relaxation for family and skill development, alongside economic drawbacks and potential risks like illegal activities. However, some ideas are underdeveloped or lack precise explanation, hovering around the Band 5 to Band 6 descriptors. For instance, the transition into potential illegal activities is abrupt and weakly supported. While a clear position is established in the introduction, the overall development of ideas remains somewhat limited and repetitive. Therefore, this performance fits comfortably within Band 5.5, showing sufficient engagement with the task despite its limitations.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays a basic overall structure with clear paragraphing, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Transitional phrases such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' are employed to signpost the shift in arguments. However, cohesion is frequently mechanical and sometimes faulty. For example, referencing is occasionally unclear ('when some one get some little relaxing time... they use this time for precisely and thinkful way'), and sentences can feel disjointed due to abrupt shifts in ideas. The progression of thoughts in the second body paragraph becomes slightly muddled when transitioning from economic consequences to personal behavior and corruption. These issues align closely with the criteria for Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for this task. Words such as 'economy', 'competitive', and 'professional skills' are used appropriately. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, such as 'belive', 'shortrer', 'extra curriculum activites', 'mused', 'slower the wheel', 'thinkful way', and 'corruptional activites'. Spelling errors like 'ilegal' and 'conculsion' also detract from the quality of the writing. These persistent inaccuracies and limited flexibility restrict the score to Band 5.0, as the vocabulary is sufficient to convey basic meaning but causes some difficulty and strain for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety in structure with conditional clauses ('If a nation increase their relaxing time...') and relative clauses. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('working hour should increase', 'world are running', 'longer weekend slower'), article usage, and prepositions. Many complex structures contain errors that impede fluency, such as 'When some one get some little relaxing time after a long work then they use this time for precisely and thinkful way.' Punctuation and word forms also require substantial improvement. These features are characteristic of Band 5.0, where frequent errors persist and can cause difficulty for the reader.
