Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary era, people are working more hours to earn money. While, some people are saying that employees need to have shorter shifts along with more days weekend off. I totally disagree with this view as there are a few reasons which I will discuss in the upcoming paragraphs.

Undoubtedly, escalating working weekends and shorter week hours have myriads of demerits. The predominant one is that it will reduce the company productivity as less working hours means less work will be done. For instance, if worker are complete work in 2 to 3 day in regular hours , this time will change into 4 to 6 days. This not only delays the completion time of work but also put an adverse impact on the company growth. Therefore, this trend has serious drawback on firms progress.

Moreover, another key factor is that People are getting their pay depend on how many hours they spend at work. Decreasing hours will also reduce their income. To illustrate, If people are working 6 hours in a day and 4 days in a weeks , they will work only 24 hours which is almost half for a full time person as well as approximately 50% deduction of their salary. In addition, masses will face issues if every sector like healthcare cut the opening and closing hours as every patient need a treatment on time otherwise their life will be in danger. As a consequence, This approach will have detrimental impact on human life.

In conclusion, shorter working weeks and extended weekdays have numerous of cons on business productivity, pay and healthcare sector which are serious drawbacks and it cannot be ignored it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear position ('I totally disagree with this view') and supporting it with several arguments regarding productivity, salary reduction, and essential services like healthcare. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, some ideas lack deep development and contain minor over-generalizations, such as the claim that shortening work hours would necessarily cut opening hours across all sectors. This places the response comfortably at Band 6.0, as it addresses all parts with relevant ideas, though certain points remain somewhat under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in the slightly awkward transitions and repetitive sentence starters. For instance, phrases like 'Undoubtedly, escalating working weekends...' and 'Moreover, another key factor is that...' demonstrate an attempt to use cohesive devices, but referencing and linking are not always seamless. There are minor issues with punctuation around conjunctions and commas that affect the flow. Overall, the organization is logical, matching the Band 6.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common terms such as 'escalating', 'myriads of demerits', 'predominant', and 'detrimental impact'. However, there are notable word-choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'escalating working weekends', 'work week hours', and 'numerous of cons'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but phrasing can be unnatural. These errors do not impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the arguments easily. This profile aligns well with Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating conditional structures ('if worker are complete work...') and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('if worker are complete', 'every patient need'), article usage ('a full time person', 'on human life'), and pluralisation ('in a weeks'). Punctuation errors also appear, such as unnecessary comma splices. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede communication as the intended meaning remains clear. This reflects the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range; given the mix of structures and manageable error frequency, a Band 6.0 is appropriate.
