Student answer (Band 6.5)
The idea of reducing the working week and allowing workers to have a longer weekend is good because it does not only improve the overall well-being of the employees but also optimizes their productivity, which I largely agree with.
One of the major benefit of a short working week is that it enhances the overall well-being of employees. This is due to the fact that they may get more time away from work to relax and do their hobbies, this allows them to exercise and have some time with their family. For example, if employees are added an extra day for a weekend, they may relax fully and have more family-time, which enhances their physical and social well-being. This leads to a better quality of life, and contributes to the long-term development of society.
Furthermore, longer weekends can help in improving the productivity. This is largely because workers who have relaxed can have more energy to tuckle issues for the coming week. Consider employees such as teachers, when they are given longer weekends, they resume to work when they are happy and energetic. As a result, they may be able to create extra time for teaching so as to cover the syllabus on time, which may significantly benefit learners in the long run.
To conclude, I strongly agree with the idea that working week should be shorter and workers should have a longer weekend since it benefits both the employers and employees by not only improving the overall well-being of the employees, but also optimizes the companie's productivity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and well-developed position on whether working weeks should be shorter. The introduction clearly states your agreement with the topic, and the body paragraphs present relevant main ideas regarding employee well-being and productivity. These ideas are extended and supported with examples, such as mentioning teachers resuming work with more energy. However, some arguments tend to overgeneralise slightly, and further elaboration on how exactly productivity increases would push the score higher. Overall, the task is properly addressed with a consistent perspective maintained throughout the essay, meeting the criteria for a Band 6.5 or solid Band 7 response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with distinct paragraphs dedicated to well-being and productivity. Cohesive devices are generally used effectively, such as 'Furthermore' and 'As a result', although referencing is occasionally a bit repetitive or mechanical (e.g., 'This is due to the fact that', 'This is largely because'). Paragraph transitions flow logically, allowing the reader to follow your line of reasoning easily. To reach a higher band, greater flexibility and variety in cohesive referencing would be beneficial, but the current structure maintains clear logical organization throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your meaning with terms like 'overall well-being', 'long-term development', and 'optimize'. You attempt less common lexical items, but there are a few noticeable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'tuckle issues' (instead of 'tackle issues') and the possessive error 'companie's' instead of 'companies''. Despite these slips, your lexical range is sufficient to allow flexibility and precision, and the errors do not impede communication. For a higher score, ensure tighter control over spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout the essay, utilizing conditional structures and relative clauses effectively. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'One of the major benefit' (should be 'benefits'), 'they may get more time... this allows them' (comma splice), and 'resume to work' (should be 'resume work'). However, despite these errors in grammar and punctuation, they rarely impede communication, and you maintain a reasonable level of control over your complex structures, making the writing generally clear and readable.
