Student answer (Band 6.0)
Worldwide employers are persuading their employees to work longer through the maximum days of a week, while the workers are demanding to have longer weekends. Although the employers think longer workhours can provide them with more production, I strongly believe that the working week should be shorter and employees should have a longer weekend for a better life and better production of a company.
First and foremost, unnecessary long working hours affects employees' psychological wellbeing that hinders them from being more productive about their tasks. When workers cannot have enough time to socialize with their family and friends, their mental health ruins and it reduces their work quality. Consequently, company's overall production becomes hampered, and it irritates the owner of the organization. Later the authority pressurize its team to be more serious without caring the team's welfare, and thus, the relationship between the owner and worker starts to be worse. Therefore, workers tend to leave the company as soon as possible or stay without being responsible properly about their tasks.
On the other hand, long weekend or holidays provides the employees with more time to explore themselves learning new skills as well as spend with their close people. This leads to a better wellbeing which can foster their productivity and company's growth. Company's success can please the authority which enables them to be more generous and kind on workers and ensure better salaries and other amenities. Being motivated by the owner, employees tend to stay longer with the company which benefits both of them.
In conclusion, although some authorities think that long working hours can benefit them, it is evident that longer weekends creates more efficient workers. Therefore, longer weekends are necessarily needed for the workers and and working time should be decreased for the long term benefits.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing that the working week should be shorter and weekends longer. The writer explores relevant ideas concerning psychological wellbeing, productivity, and the mutual benefits for both employees and companies. The position is maintained throughout the essay. However, some arguments, such as the relationship between the owner and workers, tend to over-generalise or lean slightly into narrative speculation rather than fully developed analytical points. Nevertheless, the main ideas are well-supported with logical extensions, placing the response solidly at Band 7.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression with a logical layout, moving from an introduction to two distinct body paragraphs and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each body paragraph focusing on a specific angle of the argument. Cohesive devices are employed reasonably well, using transitional phrases such as "First and foremost", "Consequently", "On the other hand", and "In conclusion". However, some referencing and cohesive links feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the repeated use of "company's overall production" and "the authority", which prevents the essay from reaching higher coherence bands.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as "psychological wellbeing", "socialize", "generous", and "amenities". There are, however, some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as "workhours" (working hours), "mental health ruins" (deteriorates), and "pressurize its team" (pressurises its team). Spelling is generally accurate, and while vocabulary errors occur occasionally, they do not impede communication, allowing the essay to comfortably meet the criteria for Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional structures ("When workers cannot have enough time...") and concessive clauses ("Although the employers think..."). There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings present throughout the text, such as "affects employees' psychological wellbeing" (should be 'affect'), "without caring the team's welfare" (should be 'without caring about'), and a duplicate word in the conclusion ("and and working time"). Despite these errors, meaning is rarely obscured, and there are enough error-free sentences to merit a Band 6.
