Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that the working days should be reduced so that the workers have a longer weekend. I agree with this proposition to increase the number of days off for workers to have more time.
The primary reason, I support this view is that longer weekend would increase the time workers spend with families and loved ones. It would further increase the productivity as workers would be willing to finish their tasks on time or even before so, as to looking forward for the weekend. Another, important reason for my position is that it would indirectly boost the company turnover as they could lease out their office space on the days off, even further there would be an added benefit to the economy as the workers would be going out with families on the longer weekends.
The other important reason for my position is that, longer weekends will give more time to the workers to focus on their own self, follow their hobbies which would eventually lead to reduced stress and anxiety and happier mood leading to better productivity at work, therefore adding to the company growth in the long run. Research suggest that people who follow atleast one hobby or do some physical activity have better productivity than those who don't follow through any of these.
In conclusion, I agree that there should be a standard shorter work week for all the employees regardless of the sector or industry that they are employed in. This is help maintained equal oppurnities for all the employees.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, agreeing with the idea of a shorter working week and longer weekend. Main ideas are introduced, such as improved family time, increased productivity, and economic benefits, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.5 or 7. However, the development of these ideas tends to be slightly repetitive and superficial. For example, the point about productivity is mentioned multiple times rather than being fully extended with deep, varied supporting arguments or robust examples. The conclusion also introduces a new point regarding equal opportunities across sectors which was not previously discussed in the body paragraphs. To reach higher bands, the student needs to ensure that every supporting point is thoroughly elaborated with distinct, well-reasoned examples and that the conclusion merely summarises existing points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a generally coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance stated in the introduction. Paragraphing is used to separate distinct ideas, such as family and economic impacts in the second paragraph and personal well-being in the third. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty and mechanical. Phrases such as 'The primary reason, I support this view' and 'Another, important reason for my position' contain unnecessary commas and repetitive sentence openings. Furthermore, referencing and logical progression are occasionally hindered by abrupt transitions between sentences and ideas, such as the sudden shift from office leasing to the wider economy in paragraph two. Paragraphing and cohesive devices are functional, but lack the flexibility and smooth flow required for a Band 7.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'proposition', 'turnover', and 'productivity'. However, there are notable inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, as seen in phrases like 'focus on their own self' instead of 'focus on themselves', and 'happier mood' instead of 'improved well-being'. Additionally, there are minor spelling and typographical issues, such as 'oppurnities' instead of 'opportunities' and 'Research suggest' instead of 'Research suggests'. Because these errors do not impede communication and the writer demonstrates a sufficient vocabulary to convey their general meaning, the response comfortably sits at a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempt at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'people who follow atleast one hobby or do some physical activity have better productivity than those who don't follow through any of these.' However, there are frequent punctuation errors, particularly the misuse of commas separating subjects from verbs or interrupting natural phrase structures, as seen in 'The primary reason, I support this view is that...' and 'The other important reason for my position is that, longer weekends...'. There are also minor grammatical slips like 'This is help maintained' instead of 'This will help maintain'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the writer from achieving a higher band score.
