Student answer (Band 5.0)

Employees should have longer weekend than longer working week. I completely agree with this statement because working entire week might be a hassel and force people to become monotonus and less productive. In order to regain strong determination and creative mind set it is essential to have longer weekend.

The primary reason might be because longer working weeks might be hectic. Nowadays workers have demanding jobs both imposing mental and physical pressure. Working constantly under pressure for weeks could reduce their productivity causing burn out. Moreover, it can cause mental pressure and feel demotivated to complete taks and decrease their performance level. For instance , a person who works in the company with longer working week will exhibit lower performance in task achievement, while an individual who has longer weekend will be refreshed and be more productive and creativity.

The secondary reason, working through out the weekdays with shorther weekend might disturb thier mental momentum. if they spend more time towards their work then they couldnt spend more time with there families, friends and children which could make them emotionally unstable. Every perosn needs a break and unwind to start fresh.Furthermore, longer weekends will allow them to spend quality time with their families. For instance, a man planning weekend getways with their families and friends will feel emotionally connected with their beloved o

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing that workers should have a shorter working week and a longer weekend. Relevant ideas such as productivity, burnout, and mental health are introduced, and examples like workers exhibiting lower performance or planning weekend getaways are provided. However, the task achievement is hindered significantly because the response fails to meet the 250-word minimum requirement, containing only 223 words. Furthermore, the final sentence trails off incomplete at the end of the second body paragraph, leaving ideas under-developed and the argument truncated. Due to the under-length penalty and incomplete conclusion, the task is only partially satisfied. Band score: 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates some overall organisation with a clear introduction stating the writer's stance, followed by body paragraphs intended to support the main argument. However, progression is disrupted by mechanical and faulty cohesive devices, such as 'The primary reason might be because' and 'The secondary reason, working through out the weekdays'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is abruptly cut off in mid-sentence, preventing a cohesive conclusion. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and repetitive sentence structures affect the flow of ideas. Band score: 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student attempts some less common vocabulary relevant to the topic, such as 'monotonus', 'determination', 'burn out', and 'emotionally unstable'. However, there are numerous spelling errors ('hassel', 'monotonus', 'taks', 'shorther', 'thier', 'perosn', 'getways') and word choice imprecision. The range of vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication, but these frequent lexical errors and lack of sophisticated phrasing prevent the response from achieving a higher band. Band score: 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Employees should have longer weekend than longer working week' and 'For instance, a person who works in the company with longer working week will exhibit lower performance...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('a hassel', 'in the company'), punctuation errors (comma splices and stray spaces before punctuation like 'For instance ,'), and incomplete syntactic structures towards the end. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, their frequency limits the control of grammar. Band score: 5.0.
