Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is argue that working weeks must be reduced and weekends should be expanded for the workers. I agree with this view because it is beneficial for the employers mental and physical health. It gives them much time to spend with family and emphasis on other life goals.

The prime reason is that workers spend most of their time in offices during weekdays. It can cause many health problems. Full-time work can cause mental and physical fatigue. They don't have enough time for rest. For example, in Pakistan, several developed cities, numerous employes work day and night. It can cause many problem in workers life. They don't have enough time for health. They become exusted during working under pressure. However, in big cities workers life is very difficult because they work all time to ear livelihood for their families. As a result, working week should be shorter becasue it is crucial for worker mental and physical health.

During long weekends, they spend quality time with their families and friends. It gives them a chance to emphasis on different goals of life. They spend most of their time on bed and taking rest. They have enough time for their children and wife. They can go outside for dinner with their loved ones. They can focus on other household cores, such as cooking. In Pakistan, most young mens like doing cooking on weekends. They prepare delicious meals for their family. Therefore, longer weekends is crucial for both cognitive and social growth.

In conclusion, working week should be shorter for employes mental and physical health protection. I firmly agree with this view because it is fundamental for social growth. The government should make law for workers and provides them longer weekends.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in agreement with the idea that working weeks should be shorter and weekends longer. The main ideas, focusing on mental and physical health benefits as well as social and family growth, are relevant and supported with some explanation and examples, such as referencing workers in Pakistan. However, some ideas are repetitive or slightly under-developed, and the distinction between employers and employees is confused in the introduction where the writer uses 'employers' instead of 'employees'. The response covers all parts of the task appropriately, placing it comfortably in the band 6 category.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as health reasons in the second paragraph and family/social benefits in the third. However, cohesive devices are at times basic or mechanical, with frequent reliance on simple connectors like 'For example' and 'Therefore'. Referencing is occasionally slightly unclear, and the progression of ideas can feel repetitive rather than advancing logically through a range of distinct points. Overall, it meets the requirements for a band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with attempts to incorporate less common items such as 'cognitive and social growth', 'livelihood', and 'fatigue'. However, there are notable spelling errors and word-choice inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'employe' and 'employes' instead of employees, 'exusted' instead of exhausted, 'cores' instead of chores, and 'mens' instead of men. Furthermore, the confusion of 'employers' for 'employees' in the opening paragraph detracts from lexical precision. Despite these errors, communication is not significantly impeded, placing the lexical control at a band 5.5 or 6.0; given the recurring spelling issues, a 5.5 is appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'The prime reason is that workers spend most of their time in offices during weekdays.' There are, however, frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'longer weekends is crucial', incorrect auxiliary usage in the opening 'It is argue that', and fragment-like structures such as 'They spend most of their time on bed'. While these errors are noticeable and can cause slight difficulty, simple sentences are generally handled with better accuracy, resulting in a band 5.5.
