Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student addresses the prompt by stating a clear position of total agreement with the idea of a shorter working week and longer weekend. Relevant ideas are presented, such as the benefits of spending time with family, reducing divorce rates, and achieving mental peace. However, the development of these ideas is hindered by repetitive phrasing and weak support. For instance, the personal and friend examples regarding divorce and the boss who is a doctor are somewhat anecdotal and lack clear logical connection to the wider economic or social arguments. While all parts of the task are addressed, the overall development corresponds to Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response suffers from severe structural issues regarding sentence boundaries and paragraphing. The entire essay consists of only four very long, run-on sentences, with the body paragraphs being single, massive blocks of text connected by endless comma splices and conjunctions like 'which also give' and 'also through the internet research'. There is a lack of clear cohesive devices and logical progression, as ideas tend to loop back on themselves rather than move forward. Paragraphing is technically present, but internal cohesion is weak and mechanical, placing this criterion at Band 4.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple words and phrases such as 'resting period', 'family time', and 'stress of job'. There are numerous word choice and collocation errors, including 'job period should be mange in short', 'given massage' instead of 'message', and 'lack of not spending family'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'cardiovascular diseases', 'hypertension', and 'diabetes', show some ambition, but persistent inaccuracies and spelling errors strain the reader and restrict the score to a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 for the successful inclusion of topic-related health terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. The text lacks proper sentence demarcation, relying heavily on comma splices to link disparate clauses, as seen in 'The longer weekend also gives you mental break from the stress of job also staying away from boss pressure which also give a good health...'. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tense consistency, and prepositions, such as 'which i total agree upon the having' and 'there are lot number cases'. Complex sentence structures are attempted, but they are consistently faulty, resulting in frequent errors that cause difficulty for the reader and warrant a Band 4.0.
