Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by stating a clear position agreeing that the working week should be shorter. However, the development of ideas is severely limited due to the overall brevity of the essay. The student reaches a length of only 151 words, which falls well short of the required 250-word minimum. Because of this, the arguments concerning strain on life and personal time are cut short and remain under-developed. Although a position is presented and supported with general examples such as working hours and travel time, the lack of adequate extension pulls the score down into Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay displays some basic organization, utilizing paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, body points, and a truncated conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by abrupt transitions and incomplete thoughts, particularly near the end where sentences trail off unfinished, such as 'pla they like'. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes mechanical, like 'On one hand' and 'Additionally'. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the lack of a fully realized conclusion means overall cohesion suffers. This performance aligns best with the Band 5 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, but it features a limited range and noticeable errors. The student attempts some topical vocabulary such as 'hectic routine', 'mentally overburdened', and 'destress', but makes frequent spelling mistakes like 'Somw', 'mwntally', 'thier', 'inorder', and incomplete words like 'contraIf' and 'pla'. While the reader can generally grasp the intended meaning, these persistent inaccuracies and the narrow lexical scope place the response firmly in Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple sentence forms and a few attempts at complex structures, such as 'As they are mwntally overburdened which has caused a huge toll...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles, subject-verb agreement issues ('people work 8 hour', 'If employee get'), and fragments. Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also handled poorly towards the end of the response. These persistent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the score from reaching a Band 6.
