Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, in many countries people are having very busy work lifestyle due to this a huge discussion is been going on getting longer weekend to the workers and the working week should be shorter. However, I partially agree with the given statement as it can have positive as well as negative impact. I will discuss both the views in thhe further paragraphs followed by the examples.

In this current developing time of the world the workload on the employees have increased. Due to this it has become difficult for the workers to mange their lives. The only solution to overcome this situation is by provide longer weekends to the workers as it may lead to many benefits. Firstly, due to the higher workload they might feel fatigued during their working week so if they get longer weekends they can get good recovery which can improve their working skills. For instance, in my home town there is a rule that the people working in industries should get weekend of three days insted of two which resulted in positive way to the industry owners. In addition by getting longer weekend the workers can manage their social life as well.

However, on the other end it can also negatively effect because longer weekend means more leisure time which means they might get lazy. As it is not easy for some of them to get back on track after a long break which might negatively impact the businesses. For instance, I read somewhere that the corporate office are providing longer weekends to their employees which backfired on them as employees where not able to get back on track after a long break.

In my opinion, I partially agree with the given statement because by giving longer weekends to the workers can have both positive and negative effects.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position where they partially agree with the prompt. The ideas are relevant and supported with explanations and examples, such as the mention of an industrial rule in their home town and corporate office experiences. However, the development of ideas tends to be slightly repetitive and somewhat general, particularly in the conclusion and body paragraphs. For instance, the notion that workers might get lazy or fail to get back on track is stated but not deeply explored. This places the response comfortably at Band 6, as it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, though some areas remain slightly under-developed or simplistic in their overall extension.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, two body paragraphs for different perspectives, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'In addition', and 'However' are used to guide the reader through the text. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes mechanical, and the transitional sentences can feel a bit abrupt. For example, the sentence 'In this current developing time of the world the workload on the employees have increased' leads into the next point without seamless connection. Furthermore, punctuation errors and missing commas occasionally disrupt the flow. Overall, the organization is logical enough to follow easily, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common collocations and phrases such as 'fatigued', 'recovery', and 'leisure time'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'mange' instead of 'manage', 'insted' instead of 'instead', 'effect' instead of 'affect', and 'where' instead of 'were'. These errors do not seriously impede communication, as the reader can still grasp the intended meaning, but they restrict the lexical score. The use of repetitive phrasing ('longer weekend', 'get back on track') also prevents the vocabulary from reaching a higher band level, making Band 6 an accurate reflection of the student's current control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'if they get longer weekends they can get good recovery'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues, including subject-verb agreement slips like 'the workload on the employees have increased' and missing articles ('provide longer weekends', 'corporate office are providing'). There are also run-on tendencies, such as in the opening sentence where multiple clauses are joined without adequate punctuation. Despite these errors, the meaning is generally clear and communication is rarely impeded. This mix of accurate simple structures alongside flawed complex sentences points directly to a Band 5.5 or Band 6 performance, with Band 6 being appropriate as communication remains clear.
