Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by taking a clear position that the working week should be shorter and weekends longer. The ideas are relevant and supported with explanations and examples, such as the reference to Samsung. However, the development of ideas tends to be somewhat repetitive and generalized, particularly in the second body paragraph regarding the USA. While the stance is maintained throughout, the supporting arguments lack deeper analysis and rely on broad assertions rather than fully extended discussion. Consequently, the performance aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors, as it addresses the task and presents relevant ideas, but some points remain under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct main points. However, cohesion at the sentence level is occasionally faulty or mechanical. For instance, transitional phrases like 'First and foremost' and 'Furthermore' are used, but referencing words sometimes lack clarity, such as 'When corporations make things easier for their employees than the workers do their duties'. The progression of ideas is discernible, yet the awkward phrasing and mechanical links place it firmly in Band 6.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'corporations', 'creatively', and 'pleasure'. However, there are numerous noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation throughout the text. Examples include 'extend' instead of 'extended', 'physically and mentally relaxation' instead of 'physical and mental relaxation', 'incridible', 'wold', 'minimun', and 'hearthedly'. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to Band 5, as the range is limited and noticeable errors frequently occur.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety. However, frequent grammatical errors are present throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('employees works', 'population performs... and also they spend'), incorrect prepositions ('in an week', 'in compare to'), and morphological errors ('safe them' instead of 'save them'). While these errors rarely completely obscure the meaning, their high frequency and impact on basic sentence structures mean the response falls below the Band 6 threshold, fitting more comfortably within the Band 5 descriptors due to frequent errors that cause some difficulty for the reader.
