Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that workers should have a longer weekend and working week should be shorter. i completely agree with this viewpoint because it offers substantial benefits for individuals and society.

one of the strongest reason why i agree with this viewpoint is that shorter work week cretaes vital space for creativity and innovation, a factor that has become increasingly important in contemporary society. this is primarily because mental energy to explore new ideas making it considerbly easier for people generate their best solutions when they time to recharge . as a result ,it plays pivotal role in promoting diverse activites. consequently, this approach not only time but also also mental strength, thereby contributing significally to long term social and economic development .a compelling example of this can be observed in China ,where software engineer full time job with evenings and weekends of creatieve experimentation used his spare time to devlop to new apps clearly demonstrating the practical significance of this prepective. therefore, i firmly believe that giving greater priority to shorter work week creates enough space for innovation and creativity would generate substanital long term benefits for individulas as well as society.

Another equally compelling justification for my position is the positive impact on personal and family life , which has the potential produce meaningful and sustainable outcomes. by prioritising this approach, individuals would be better eqipped to benefit, thereby enhancing ,such as shared meals, outing or simply quality time spend that more stronge realtionships.more importantly, this approach foster United States found that companies four day work week ,faciliate amount of time they spent on family activites in non working hours and lay the foundation for sustainable long term progress. for instance, United States achieved remarkable progress after adopting practice illustrating the effectiveness of this approach. taken together, these arguments clearly justify why i agree with given statement.

In conclusion, i firmly believe that positive impact on family and personal life should be given greater priority, as it contributes significally to sustainable long term development and overall well being.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response clearly addresses the prompt, taking a strong and consistent stance in agreement with the idea that the working week should be shortened and the weekend lengthened. The main body paragraphs introduce relevant ideas, such as fostering creativity and improving personal and family life. However, some arguments suffer from developmental flaws and minor leaps in logic. For instance, the example involving the Chinese software engineer is slightly fragmented and repetitive in expression, and the reference to the United States appears somewhat disjointed and lacks precise contextual detail. Despite these minor underdeveloped patches, all parts of the task are addressed with a clear position, aligning well with the requirements for a Band 6.5 or 7.0. Because the ideas are relevant and supported with examples, a score of 6.5 is appropriate.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing, dividing the introduction, two body paragraphs, and conclusion appropriately. Progression is generally logical, moving smoothly from a clear thesis statement to specific supporting body points. However, cohesion is frequently impacted by mechanical errors, missing capitalisation at the start of sentences, punctuation mistakes (such as spaces before commas), and occasional referencing issues. For instance, phrases like 'one of the strongest reason' and fragmented clause transitions make the cohesive flow feel a bit disjointed at times. Cohesive devices are present but sometimes imprecise or mechanically faulty. This places the response firmly in the Band 6 category, as the overarching structure is sound even though individual cohesive ties and punctuation conventions show noticeable flaws.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'contemporary society', 'sustainable long term progress', and 'pivotal role'. However, there are frequent lexical inaccuracies, word-choice errors, and missing words, such as 'shorter work week cretaes', 'considerbly', 'devlop to new apps', and 'eqipped to benefit'. Spelling mistakes and typographical errors are also present throughout the text. While communication is not severely impeded and the vocabulary used is sufficient to convey the main arguments, the accumulation of errors prevents the lexical score from reaching a higher band. Therefore, a Band 6.0 reflects the mix of adequate vocabulary range alongside noticeable spelling and word-formation errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ambition in sentence structures through relative clauses and participial phrases (e.g., 'which has the potential produce meaningful and sustainable outcomes'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak, marked by systemic issues with sentence boundaries, capitalization, missing articles, and awkward phrasing such as 'workers should have a longer weekend and working week should be shorter' and 'software engineer full time job with evenings and weekends of creatieve experimentation'. Punctuation is frequently problematic, with missing periods and commas placed incorrectly before spaces. These errors require the reader to occasionally re-read parts of sentences. This performance fits the Band 5.5 to 6.0 range, warranting a Band 5.5 due to the high frequency of sentence-level structural and punctuation errors.
