Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued by some people that working hours should be lesser and the employers should have longer time to relax. This essay will discuss the limitations of long working weeks and I completely agree with this statement that employer should reduce working days.

The primary reason is, if working weeks are reduced than worker would have enough time to relax, because it decreases the burden of workload which leads to more productivity and efficiency. For example, if an employee have 3 off days instead of 2 days, he will come on job with more energy and with fresh mind and will also put much efforts to do their best. The second reason is it also enhances the relationship between employee and employer, which take the company towards success, because good bond relates to much understanding and trust on which company' success based.

Long working week has its demerits, firstly there is chances of much errors, because its human nature of getting bored of something if anything continues for long hours or without break. Everyone, even its child or adult need a break from their work to refresh mind, so they can concentrate and focus on job or study. Big reason of doing work also lead to mental illness due to work pressure.

In conclusion, i firmly believe that shortening the working week and extending the weekend is a progressive step forward and specially beneficial for healthy well-being. More productivity only achieved with healthier and happier mind and it also cultivate good realtion among company member.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing with the prompt and supporting it with relevant arguments regarding productivity and mental health. However, there is some confusion in terminology, as the student frequently uses the word 'employer' instead of 'employee' in the introduction and first body paragraph (e.g., 'employers should have longer time to relax'). Despite this lexical slip causing a slight ambiguity in who the argument refers to initially, the overall position remains discernible throughout the essay. The ideas are extended, discussing the dangers of burnout and the benefits of a fresh mind, which places this response comfortably at Band 6.0 in terms of task coverage.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'The primary reason is', 'The second reason is', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing is sometimes faulty, such as the pronoun shift in 'Everyone, even its child or adult need a break', and some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is utilised adequately to separate distinct arguments about productivity, employee well-being, and the drawbacks of long working hours, supporting a Band 6.0 level of coherence and cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'productivity', 'efficiency', 'progressive', and 'well-being'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and word-choice errors, most notably using 'employer' when meaning 'employee' ('employers should have longer time to relax') and awkward phrasing such as 'come on job' instead of 'come to work' or 'arrive on the job'. Spelling and word formation errors also appear, such as 'realtion' instead of 'relation'. Because these errors do not completely impede communication, the response achieves a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional structures like 'if working weeks are reduced than worker would have enough time...'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'if an employee have 3 off days', 'worker would have', 'its human nature', and 'everyone... need'. Punctuation errors are also present, including a missing space after a period. While these errors do not prevent the overall meaning from coming across, they demonstrate limited control over complex structures, warranting a Band 5.5.
