Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is argued that the duration of working week should be reduced and workers should have longer weekends. I agree with expanding the weekend duration beacuse it supports better health of the employees and enhances their work efficiency.
Working long hours sitting on a chair and constant screen exposures can affect the physical health of an employee. Increasing workloads can cause stress that in turn impacts the emotional health of the workers. Taking a long weekend will help them recover physically as well as emotionally. For instance, going on holidays during the longer weekend will help them unwind from work by providing a change in their environment.
Furthermore, working under constant work pressure lowers the capability to introduce innovation at work. Taking a break from work provides space and room for efficient ideas. Boredom is known for clearing the brain fog and inspiring individuals with better and amazing ideas. A good example of this is, artists often get the inspiration to work when they are leisurely sitting or spending their time in a peaceful and calm place rather then working under a lot pressure. Well known people spend their time away from chaos to sort out their thoughts and create something magnificant.
In conclusion, longer weekends improve the physical and emotional well being of working professionals by providing them a change of atmosphere. It also provides more space in the brain to think of new and innovative ideas that is known to improve the efficiency of people at their jobs. Thus, I support the fact that working week should be shorter and longer weekends should be provided to the workers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response clearly addresses both parts of the prompt by taking a definite stance in agreement with shortening the working week and extending the weekend. The writer presents relevant main ideas, specifically focusing on employee health and work efficiency/innovation. The ideas are extended and supported with explanations and examples, such as referencing the benefits of unwinding and how downtime can foster better creative thinking. While the examples about artists and well-known people are somewhat general, they adequately support the broader argument. The position is maintained clearly throughout the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Overall, the task is successfully fulfilled, meeting the requirements of Band 7.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response is logically organised, with a clear progression of ideas from the introduction through two distinct body paragraphs to the conclusion. Each paragraph has a clear central topic, such as physical and emotional health in the second paragraph and innovation in the third. Cohesive devices are used appropriately to connect sentences and ideas, including transitions like 'Furthermore' and 'In conclusion'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and effectively. However, referencing and transitional mechanics could be slightly more varied and sophisticated to reach the highest band levels. Overall, the structural flow is clear and easy to follow, supporting a solid Band 7 score.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate and appropriate for discussing workplace trends, featuring useful phrases such as 'physical health', 'emotional health', 'work pressure', and 'brain fog'. There are some attempts at less common lexical items like 'magnificant' (spelled 'magnificent' in standard usage) and 'unwind'. However, there are minor spelling errors such as 'beacuse' instead of 'because' and 'magnificant' instead of 'magnificent', along with occasional slightly unnatural phrasing like 'leisurely sitting'. The range is sufficient for precision and flexibility, though it occasionally lacks the consistent sophistication of a higher band. This performance aligns well with the Band 6.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including participial phrases and conditional-like structures, such as 'Working long hours sitting on a chair and constant screen exposures can affect the physical health of an employee.' There are instances of minor grammatical inaccuracies, such as missing articles ('the' duration, 'a' shorter working week) and slight prepositional awkwardness ('rather then working' instead of 'rather than'). Punctuation is generally sound, and despite these errors, communication is never impeded. The majority of simple sentences are accurate, and complex structures are attempted with reasonable control, justifying a Band 6.0 score.
