Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear stance that working weeks should be shorter and weekends longer. However, the task achievement is significantly constrained because the response is under-length, containing only 218 words against the 250-word minimum requirement. While the writer presents relevant ideas regarding mental health, physical strain, and productivity, the development of these points is somewhat limited and repetitive. For example, the argument regarding stress relief is reiterated several times without introducing new supporting evidence or depth. Because the length requirement is not met and the ideas lack full extension, this warrants a band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays a basic logical organisation with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. However, cohesion is often mechanical or faulty. For instance, transitional phrases like 'Therefore' and 'Secondly' are used, but referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the ambiguous pronoun use in 'To overcome these problems increase the demands of worker simultanously increasd the working hours.' Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas is loose, and the second body paragraph is overly dense with a list-like structure ('groceries, laundry food prep'). Overall, the progression lacks smooth flow, aligning closely with band 5.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'exhausting', 'postural problems', and 'burnout'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'increase the demands of worker simultanously increasd', 'stress to employers' (instead of employees), and 'creates the memories'. Spelling errors like 'neccesary' and punctuation issues around commas also occur. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic message, but frequent inaccuracies place it securely at band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('there is a long working hours') and tense inconsistencies. Complex structures often contain faults, as seen in 'so you can manage your pending work on weekend such as groceries, laundry food prep.' Punctuation is also problematic, with missing capitalisation in some areas and incorrect spacing around commas and periods. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect band 5.0 performance.
