Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response presents a clear position agreeing that the working week should be shorter and weekends longer. Main ideas regarding family time, health benefits, and household tasks are introduced. However, the development of these ideas is limited and repetitive. For instance, the point about spending time with family is mentioned multiple times without being significantly extended. Furthermore, the response falls short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 242 words, which directly impacts task achievement. While all parts of the prompt are addressed, the under-length nature and under-developed support restrict the score to Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing basic paragraphing structure. However, logical progression is often hindered by abrupt transitions and repetitive content. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or are missing in places, such as 'To elaborate' followed by a fragmented structure, and 'To explain' used repeatedly. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between sentences lacks smooth logical flow. While the overarching structure is discernible, the faulty mechanical cohesion and repetitive organisation align with the Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for communicating basic ideas, featuring terms such as 'relaxation', 'family time', and 'fatigue'. However, the range is limited, and there are several noticeable word choice and spelling errors, such as 'full fill' instead of 'fulfil', 'compeletely', 'indivduals', 'freinds', 'advatage', and 'benefecial'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary like 'fatigue' and 'notion', but the frequent spelling mistakes and restricted lexical variety prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, such as 'employees who working 9 to 5 jobs' (missing verb) and 'due longer working hours they facing health problems' (missing preposition and auxiliary verb). There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'many people has pending tasks' and 'health problem is also an affect'. These frequent errors can cause occasional difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar firmly in the Band 5 category.
