Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that the working days per week should be reduced so that employees can enjoy a longer weekend. I completely agree with view because shorter working hours can improve employees' well-being and increase their productivity.
One major advantage of a shorter working week is that it can have a positive impact on the employees' mental and physical health. Working for long hours can cause stress, exhaustion and burnout, leaving people less time to rest and spent with families. A long weekend would provide people fusible time to rest, unwind and spent quality time pursuing their hobbies. It will help them maintaining work-life balance. For example employees who have sufficient time to recover from hectic week are likely to return back at work more fresh and energetic.
Another important benefit is that reducing working hours could actually improve productivity. Employees who are generally well rested are able to consentrate better and complete their task efficiently. In contrast, excessive working hours can result in fatigue and reduce concentration which can increase number of mistakes made at work. For instance, if companies provide employees with an additional day off, workers may return with great energy and motivation, enabling them to accomplish their responsibilities more effectively within their working hours.
In conclusion, i strongly agree that the working week should be shorter and employees should have a longer weekend. This change could improve their overall well-being while also helping them remain productive and efficient at work and maintain a higher standard of performance.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response clearly addresses all parts of the task by taking a firm, consistent position in agreement with the prompt. The student introduces two distinct main ideas to support this view: the positive impact on physical and mental well-being, and the resulting increase in productivity. These ideas are extended and supported with relevant explanations and examples, such as how well-rested employees return to work with greater energy and concentration. Although some of the examples are slightly generalised, the main arguments are well-developed and fulfil the requirements of the prompt effectively, aligning well with the Band 7 descriptor.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, starting with a clear introduction, moving through two body paragraphs exploring well-chosen arguments, and concluding with a concise summary. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader, such as 'One major advantage', 'Another important benefit', and 'In conclusion'. Paragraphing is used appropriately and supports the overall progression of ideas, though referencing and transitional phrases occasionally lean towards the mechanical side, which places this response comfortably at Band 7.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary with some flexibility and precision, attempting less common lexical items such as 'well-being', 'productivity', 'exhaustion', and 'work-life balance'. However, there are noticeable spelling and collocation errors throughout the text, including 'with view' instead of 'with this view', 'fusible time' instead of 'flexible or feasible time', 'consentrate' instead of 'concentrate', and issues with verb forms like 'help them maintaining' instead of 'help them maintain'. These vocabulary limitations and mechanical errors prevent the lexical score from reaching Band 7, making Band 6 a more accurate fit.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses, such as 'Employees who are generally well rested are able to consentrate better...'. There are several grammatical and mechanical errors present, including missing articles ('agree with view', 'return back at work more fresh'), incorrect verb forms ('spent' instead of 'spend' after 'to'), and a minor punctuation issue ('efficiently. In contrast'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the grammar score from rising to Band 7, aligning well with the descriptors for Band 6.
