Student answer (Band 5.0)
Some people say that the working week should be shorter and workers should have a longer weekend. I have a different opinion.
The working week and a longer weekend can be give to some extend. One main point is that those workers who works very long hours and get a short weekend so they should get this opportunities. They can not have extra time to their family members. They can not manage a good work-life balance. their family members miss them and they also miss their families. If they get a long weekend they can enjoy their personal life: playing their children, helping their spouse with cooking and other things, and so on. In addition, they can travel somewhere and spend quality times. Another one is that economy. Some people think this development can affect economy, but more leisure time means more travel, more shopping, more hangout.
To some extend, this development brings some outcomes. For example, if doctors and nurses have longer weekend general people can not get medical treatment, increasing problems. Moreover, the police stations should be open all the time because anyone can have bad situations. If there are no police officers so people can be affected. Also, army, and border guard remain in national border. So, anyone can not be harmful for a country.
In conclusion, those people works very hard and can not lead a normal life, they should have a shorter working hours and a longer weekend. Government employee already have a schedules if they have more weekend, it can be serious.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether the working week should be shorter and the weekend longer. The student initially states a different opinion, suggesting they disagree, but then supports the idea that hard-working individuals should indeed have shorter hours, creating a somewhat unclear and contradictory position. Ideas are presented, such as the benefits of extra leisure time and the potential negative impacts on essential services like healthcare and policing, but these are largely under-developed and lack extension. The conclusion further confuses the stance by stating that hard-working people should have shorter hours, shifting the apparent position. Because the arguments are disjointed, basic, and lack thorough support, this falls into the Band 5 category.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays an attempt at paragraphing, but the internal logical flow is frequently disrupted. Transitional phrases are basic or misused, such as starting paragraphs with 'Another one is that economy' or 'To some extend, this development brings some outcomes.' Referencing and substitution are occasionally faulty, making relationships between ideas hard to follow (e.g., 'If there are no police officers so people can be affected'). There is no clear overall progression of argument, resulting in a choppy and repetitive structure. Paragraphs lack cohesive unity, jumping erratically between personal benefits, economic speculation, and essential services without smooth transitions. This fits the description for Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively limited and repetitive, with frequent reliance on basic words ('good work-life balance', 'personal life', 'travel somewhere'). There are notable errors in word choice, form, and collocation, such as 'can be give to some extend', 'hangout' used as a noun, and 'general people' instead of 'the general public'. Spelling is generally acceptable, but the lexical range is barely adequate to communicate the ideas simply. Attempts at less common vocabulary are either inaccurate or inappropriate for an academic essay. This performance aligns with Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and somewhat complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty. There are persistent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('those people works', 'workers who works'), missing auxiliary verbs ('Anyone can have bad situations'), and preposition or article errors. Punctuation is basic and sometimes neglected. These frequent errors cause occasional difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from achieving a higher band. This corresponds to a Band 5 level of grammatical control.
